I've been stocking up on BG 4.0s (thanks to HB classifieds) but I'm wondering what everyone did for the newborn stage? At a baby shower (like a bridal show except for baby stuff) over the weekend, I learned about prefolds and covers. But I want to know my other options.

I got a rental stash of brand new Bum Genius newborn AIOs. 8 weeks for $40 from Twin City Diaper Co. Not too shabby! Another member here did the same and was happy with it too.

I also rented BG newborn diapers from Twin City, and stayed in them longer than I should have....because they aren't super absorbent! She was peeing through them early on. I used disposables at home for the first two weeks

We used sposies until his umbilical stump fell off (3 weeks). This time we will probably do the same plus use the NB CB's we scored on clearance at Target.

Pampers! I think we switched to our Bum Genius one-sizers at around a month old. LO was technically big enough from the very beginning, but the ease of disposables was really nice when we had so much new stuff going on!

We used disposables until visitors left. Then we used GMD prefolds, workhorse fitteds, and had 2 swaddlebees.

We used disposables until the umbilical cord fell off then used prefolds with a snappi and covers I made using the Babyville pattern. I also have some Thirstees diaper covers which I love.

Never used any sposies.
We used newborn AIO's. Lil Joey, GroVia Newborn, and BG AIO Newborn. The Lil Joeys were our favorites, but she outgrew them the quickest. They also have a snap down for the umbilical cord so we used those from birth, including in the hospital.

We used disposables in the hospital and then he started getting rashy and we switched to a mix of lil joeys, one BG AIO, and fitted/prefolds.
I don't want to dissuade you but we hated the fitted/prefolds & covers. Actually doing the prefolds was way easier than I anticipated but it was so super bulky with a PUL or fleece cover. They made his cord stump bleed after it fell off even with the little "dip".
I'll be doing all lil joeys/aios for next LO!

We did newborn fitteds with covers as a rental from SweetBottoms. Loved em!!

We used disposables. A friend told me that I wouldn't want to worry about all that extra laundry early on anyway, and LO was already out of newborn diapers by 2 weeks so we were able to put her in cloth pretty early.

We used disposables until the cord fell off, when went right into our fuzzibunz OS. I am going to buy a stash of NB dipes for baby #2 and beyond.

We rented fitteds from a diaper service, which also did all the laundry, and Thirsties and Bummis covers that we purchased separately. The two months of diaper service were covered by a gift certificate from my co-workers. If we didn't have that gift, I think we would've used disposables because we weren't up to doing all that laundry in the first couple of months.

We used disposables until my LO could fit into the AIO bumgenius elementals, which was about 2-3 months since he was a tiny one. This time around I plan on using disposables until the cord falls off and then move onto newborn cloth diapers. I bought a set recently from Cotton Babies during their seconds sale for $7.50 each.

I used a combo of disposables, prefolds & covers, Grovias, BG newborns and Thirsties AIOs. My favorites were prefolds and disposables! The BG newborns were so leaky for us this time!

We're doing a few different fitteds (which I already mentioned on our November thread) and covers. The covers are Bummis, Rumparooz, Prowrap, and Thirsties. Except for the Thirsties, the others have cutouts for the umbilical cord (I think...).

We used gdiapers newborn gpants. They fold down for the umbilical cord stump. We ended up also using disposables because we were going through sooooo many diapers the first few weeks.

we used disposables and then did a rental. i think next time we'll just use disposables until LO fits the diapers (4.0s and flips).

Mostly prefolds (GMD newborn) with covers, but I had a few swaddlebees all-in-ones in newborn that I loved too.

We did mostly prefolds and covers, and we started right from the beginning. We also had fitteds (Imagine and GMD workhorse) and AIOs (Simplex, BG and Lil Joeys) that were grandma/diaper bag dipes.

We used disposables gifted at our shower until the meconium was gone, then a mix of prefolds/fitteds with covers (Green Mountain orange edge prefolds, kissaluv fitteds). I had a variety of covers bought used: imse vimse, thirsties, and bummis whisper wraps. I liked them all. I actually still far prefer prefolds and covers to AIOs and pockets at 6 months, so that's primarily what we use. I save pockets for babysitters now, because people can easily figure them out.
