CD mamas...what detergent do you use? I just bought some prefolds for when LO gets here, and I want to wash them.
Give me your recommendations!

Tide original liquid. I do really want to move to Soapnuts though!

Tide original powder - now it's harder to find on the shelves, but Tide ultra is pretty much the same.

Charlie's soap. It works well, but it was a bad EWG rating, so after I finish this tub, I'll switch to something else.

I just got a list of recommended detergents from
Cotton babies and they don't recommend Tide but I bought it already. Do any of you use tide on bum genius with good results?
I was using the BG detergent but am having all kinds of problems with odor and buildup

I'm planning on using Country Save. I have a trial pack now, but am waiting until I get closer to LO getting here before I buy more (and also, to use up the last of my up and up free and clear).

@Tidybee: I do! We use mostly Elementals with a few other brands thrown in. Tide is rarely recommended by manufacturers, but if you read about it in any CD groups or boards you'll find lots and lots of rave reviews. In our area, it's pretty much the favored option to use with our water. Country Save and Rockin Green are the two other favorites. We used Country Save for a while, and it worked really well on diapers, but not on our regular clothes. I don't want to have to buy two different detergents, so we're sticking with Tide. Plus, I do think the Tide works a little better.

@Tidybee: Also, if you're still having odor issues I HIGHLY recommend emailing Stephanie at Abby's Lane. She's tremendously helpful and will troubleshoot until you find the perfect solution. She's really fast with email, too.

@Tidybee: I have been using Tide powder on BG AIOs and BG 4.0s with no issues. I'm very happy with it!

I've tried homemade, Country Save, Tide, soapnuts, Ecos and Honest. My least favorite was Tide because I hated the smell, it took forever to rinse out, and it made my diapers super crunchy really quickly. Any diapers washed in it are still crunchy even though it's been months since I've used it. It really does have rave reviews on the cloth diaper boards, though.
Homemade and Country Save worked well, but my diapers were stiff when I used them.
Soapnuts and Ecos would be my second choices. Honest is my favorite. Everything comes out really clean with no scent, and the diapers stay soft (which is oddly important to me).

I prewashed all of my stuff with the Tide Ultra powder. I spent waaaay too long online over the course of a few days/weeks (oops) and I'm hopin' it'll work out for us!

@joyjoy: Hmm... I've found that Tide keeps our diapers the softest. I think so much about diaper washing really depends on water type. It's hard to find one system that works for everyone!

I used Rock 'n Green and *hated it*
Using Tide original powder now and LOVE it
(We have very hard water, if that matters)

I bought Charlie's soap before LO was here and we have been using that with good results for about 6 months now. After it is used up I will be switching to Tide powder at the recommendation of the moms in my local CD group.

We use homemade.
We had terrible build up issues with Rockin Green (tried bth regular and hard rock). We also used Dropps for awhile, but like the homemade best.

@weagle: Yup, I totally agree! What works varies so much based on water type and even washers. We have the double whammy of an HE FL and super soft water, which is why even HE Tide took forever to rinse out. I figured that's probably how things got crunchy, but I have no idea why they stayed crunchy. *shrug*

I did so much research and ended up with Nellie's. I really like it so far, but I have only done a few loads.

@anbanan15: I was going to prep my diapers today but I read that homemade (made with fels naptha) leaves a residue so now I have to figure something else out.

@Ash: I was reading through this thread and going to warn you that a lot of diapers say not to use borax on them, which is a key component in a lot of homemade formulas.

@ShootingStar: yep, it is in mine! What'd you use? Thinking of getting a hold of some Rockin Green.

@Ash: I got some Ecos Free and Clear. I was debating between that and Seventh Gen baby detergent which specifically says ok for CDs. I really wanted something that I could pick up in a store in case we ran out and I forgot to order it, and Whole Foods has the Ecos. I was really tempted by the Seventh Gen one because you can get it at Target, but I could not find ONE review of anyone using it for CDs. Plus it's scented, and I use F&C on my own clothes because I'm allergic to stuff.
