@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I had 2 c/s and had zero problems with either. I had to google adhesions after a c/s because I had never heard of them

I have also had 2 c/s and did not have any adhesions (I'm hesitant to google this because I'm a hypochondriac but I'm sure I would know, right?), no bowel obstructions, no chronic pelvic pain.
I would not have CHOSEN to have c/s, but that's what got my girls here safely. I will say that I don't heal well, and both times my incision was open for 7-8 weeks and wounds had to be packed, got infected, etc. So that really sucked. I would say if you're just thinking of choosing to have a c/s perhaps don't, but I'm not sure what your story is.
ETA: I googled it and wish I hadn't.

@LulaBee: oh no! Even if you have them it doesn't mean they cause problems.

I've had 2 c sections and none of the complications you mention. With my second, though, I did have some post-op internal bleeding into my stomach that resulted in my needing a second night in the hospital and a blood transfusion. My doctor was totally mystified as to how it happened, though, as she said it's an unusual complication that she would not have expected based on how well my section went.

As you know with my first I had a emergency c section. As far as I'm aware of I don't have adhesions and have had no other complications. I actually found recovery from my c section easier than my vbac but that was probably because I didn't have any other children and my husband was able to help me with everything without having to also assist with multiple children.

I've had three sections and no complications. I've been pretty much back to normal by 5-7 days post op.
My girls and I wouldn't be here without them so thank you modern medicine!

I had a c-section (not by choice) and I've had none of these problems. Similar to PPs, I have never even heard of them. I have some serious doubts regarding your statement that adhesions are "very common."
As @oliviaoblivia: said, my son (and me) could have potentially had a pretty scary outcome without modern science. I wouldn't have chosen my c-section, but it was the best thing for the two of us and ensured we were both safe.
I can also jump up and down without peeing myself, which is a plus!

I had an emergency c-section and have no long lasting issues like above. I had some terrible bruising on my abdomen after the surgery but that was the only negative thing about the procedure. My doctor never mentioned adhesions as a risk.
pear / 1737 posts
Had an unplanned c section and very little negative side effects, none of the ones you have mentioned above. The only thing I got was a surface skin infection (that I needed to take antibiotics for) and some draining. Both resolved quickly and weren't too big of a deal. I was told those are more normal "complications" from the surgery. Going into it not knowing very much about c sections it can be scary, but now that I have gone through it it actually wasn't that bad.
It wasn't my desired birthing method, but as others have said, we are lucky it exists to get our babies here safely when it is needed!
ETA: my issues happened in the first week and a half after surgery. My recovery steadily improved each week. 4 weeks I was feeling pretty good and by 6 I was feeling great.

2 c-sections in 2 years and no problems. I'd also never heard of adhesions but based on the responses above, will not be googling it.

I had an unplanned c-section and no complications. I plan on doing another one in August.

I had two c-sections with no complications. My recovery with my first was great, with my second it was pretty painful but once I hit the two weeks mark recovery was very quick.
One thing I never expected since the baby came out my belly: very painful sex afterwards. I am currently seeing a pelvic health physio about this and wish I had after my first.

My IRL friends have had similar experiences as you all, thank goodness! I'm just trying to get a feel for worse case scenarios and it looks like I would be an outlier if an adhesion caused me problems.
Worst case for a vaginal delivery with episiotomy is just the opposite- fecal incontinence!

I've never heard of adhesion.
I had a C-section with my second because she was breech, and had no unusual problems. 4 months out and it's a little numb over the incision, but it healed well. My only real "problem" was getting my bowels working properly...I was really blocked up with the painkillers, and it hurt like hell to poop or even fart for a week or two. Like...I was in tears. Stool softeners!

I had two C-sections (one emergency, one scheduled) and zero complications. I felt close to normal in about a week.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: yes, but it's not back to normal by any means. Last time, when I stopped breastfeeding was when it got better. It's a combo of breastfeeding hormones and tight muscles.
DH's aunt had adhesions last year, 30 odd years after her c-section. It was a nasty experience for her, but she is fine now.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I'm having a scheduled cs this time around because if I tear as bad as last time I'm at risk for for fecal incontinence. Which I feel could be the worst thing ever?! The OB told me this time will be a walk in the park vs what I dealt with last time (longgggg recovery).
Again, good luck with your decision!

I had a c-section (scheduled) and none of the complications listed above. The people I know IRL who have talked about their c-sections never mentioned any complications either.
The only “complication” (not really a complication) I had was that a nerve got trapped when my OB sewed me back up. The exact same thing could have happened if I had a vaginal delivery and tear. And it doesn’t cause pain in normal life/activity – it only hurts if I do really intense ab work – like more than 50 situps in a day. Not doing 50+ situps in a day isn’t really a problem for me

one emergency c- section one RCS, and none of the complications listed.
only issue was that with my second one corner of the incision opened slightly so my OB put silver nitrate on it and no issue at all, not even thick scarring
@lovehoneybee: seriously take the meds! (and milk of magnesia if things aren't going well)

One emergency c-section and a RCS - no issues with either. The second was much easier than the first from a recovery perspective.

I had one emergency c-section and 1 elective repeat c-section. I had a couple small adhesions that weren't apparent until later in my second pregnancy when I could feel them pull a bit as my uterus grew, they eventually broke which hurt a touch but no worse than RLP. I had a numb spot from incision to belly button that was worst right after the section but slowly resolved over a year-ish. No pelvic pain, no incontinence, no bowel problems, no infection issues etc.

I had two planned c-sections (two breech babies) and no complications. I did have a keloid scar with my first, but my doctor removed it during my second surgery and I can barely even see my scar 14 months out.

I haven't had a csection, but I do have some adhesions from my appendectomy. I know that adhesions can sometimes be very serious, but mine aren't. I get some pulling/twinging sensations and have a slightly limited back bend flexibility, but it only comes up in yoga.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I had an emerg c-section that healed without complication. The incision was so well done and stitched that about 3 years after it was nearly invisible - very impressive.
While the physical side was great, emotionally it was (still is?) really hard on me that I didn't have a vaginal birth - but I know you didn't ask about that part!
I've been reading along and am hoping you get the chance to labour and deliver baby in the way that feels right to you.

I had a c-section when my water broke 4 weeks early and LO was breech. I had a super easy recovery (taking long walks within a week) and no complications whatsoever. A c-section wasn't what I was expecting, but it worked out great for me and LO.

I've had three c-sections. At the last one, my OB said that my bladder was adhered to my uterus and that he couldn't see where he was cutting because of all the scar tissue. But, I have never had any pain or issues from it. And when I asked him and my chiropractor, they both said I won't have any problems from it. I had some other complications, too. Let me know if you want to hear my whole personal story.

1 emergency c-section and 1 RCS - recovery for both was a breeze and zero complications. Wishing you the best of luck!!

I did not have any complications from my csection. It was way easier than I thought it would be.

@Mrs. Champagne: oh my! Good luck with your cesearean!

I had a c-section with no complications; the only issue was serious inability to go to the bathroom for nearly two weeks afterward. It hurt so much that I was on painkillers for THAT, instead of the actual incision!

2 c-sections, no complications.
I will say, although I didn't have any complications, my second csec was much easier than my first. Different doctors from my practices did the delivery and it made a huge difference. My second doctor was extremely meticulous (the csec was much longer, and it wasn't because of scar tissue or anything) and she bound my abdomen afterwards. I can't stress enough what a difference that made.
