We're flying this week with LO (13 months) and he'll be on our laps, so we plan to check the car seat with our bags. I've heard mixed messages about whether the airlines will provide you a clear plastic bag for the car seat. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I don't chance it, so I always use a cheap car seat bag, the very bright orange one, I forget who makes it!

I heard that you weren't supposed to check car seats unless in the original box...

the one time i checked a carseat they had a clear plastic bag for it (as well as the stroller). you could try calling the airline, although i wonder if it's an airport to airport issue. i would be surprised if they didn't have the clear plastic bags because people often bring odd-sized items.

We checked our carseat twice now. Worked out great! The airline provided a bag and I saw the roll of bags at all of the check-in stations. I don't trust people, though and I stood there and watched while they put it in the bag and tagged it and sent it on it's merry way.

I've flown Southwest and United with my son and both times they had clear plastic bags. We are flying again in Nov. and December and I plan to check it again.

It totally depends. Some give them to you, some do not.

We fly delta and have never been offered a bag. We just put our infant seat and snap and go in trash bags.
Now both kids are in convertibles, so when we travel we rent seats from car rental companies. -
I have always had a bag provided when I check a car seat. {Gate checking is the only exception I can think of.}

I have never been offered a bag... we have two gate check bags, one for a stroller and one for a carseat. I love having them because you can stuff jackets and coats in there too.
