So we have a cheapo lighted garland for our mantle for Christmas, but it's definitely cheap. I'd LOVE something nicer, but don't know where to look!
Anyone have any suggestions?

@Adira: How nice? We got ours at Pottery Barn. There are some nice ones on Frontgate as well.

We got ours at Ballard Designs (I think?) But there are also very nice garlands at Balsam Hill.

@littlek: @spaniellove: @SwanSong: Thanks! I'll have to check those out!! I was just looking at Amazon and thought there HAD to be more/better options elsewhere!

I got mine on sale at Michaels and just decorate it myself with red berries, flowers, glittered ornaments, etc. I'm planning to put mine up this weeks so I'll post a photo once it's up.

@rattles: We got a live garland one year and it was the most beautiful thing ever.

What exactly are you looking for? Do you want a traditional green garland? I use white light garland from Costco that has little balls and crystals on it. I love it! Mine is from a few years back but I noticed Costco had it this year too. I'm in Canada though.

@Adira: your post motivated me to put the garland up on our mantle today

@delight: so pretty! Costco USA had it too this year because I've been eyeing it up!

@delight: @sandy: Both of you have gorgeous garlands!
We don't have a mantle I wish we did though!

I bought the cheap stuff at Target. I doubled it up, put lights through it and then added some ornaments. The same thing was like $75 at Hobby Lobby and I like mine much better! Just ignore the old fireplace screen we haven't replaced from the old owners.

Ours is from Costco! This is a nice picture of it from last year in our old house.

I have mantle envy! I wish we had a fireplace, all of your decorated mantles are lovely.

@delight: Your mantle is so pretty!! I was thinking the traditional green fir garland, but I like the look of yours too!!
@sandy: I love yours!! But I think you may be more crafty than me... I don't think I could pull that off!
@Smurfette: You did a great job on yours! Maybe if I doubled up my cheap thing, it'd look okay! Also - where you get your stockings? I love them!
@Pepper: Yours is so pretty! I have garland envy.

@Adira: it's super easy I promise! You buy the regular green garland at Michaels using their 20% off coupon...but buy enough so you can double it so it's extra full/thick looking. Then buy a bunch of small floral decorations (they are on sale for the holidays) and just stick them in randomly. Mine are just nestled in and I take them off and store in a large container with the stripped down garland and redecorate every year. I bought some long floral decor and just dissembled it to smaller pieces. You can just decorate with ornaments too. I like being able to change it up every year. I promise its sooo easy...I can only do beginner level crafts...anything beyond a hot glue gun is too complicated for me

@sunny: decorate your window or doorway with garland! I've also cleared out the bottom shelves on our bookcases and decorated with garland in past years.

@sandy: Ooh good idea! I don't know how long they would last with C running around though!

@sunny: we only decorated half our tree last year but this year she definitely gets that she's supposed to leave the decorations alone

@Adira: I recently strung pinecones on sisal rope. Screwed eye hooks into the tops of the pinecones. Made for a modern, woodsy look. If you are planning to get a real tree, save the clippings and just put them on your mantel.
