Growing up we had some fake and some real trees. DH and I have established a decidedly real tree household The best tree we've ever had we bought at Costco!

We have a fake tree. I'd like to have real trees once we're in a house and can buy living trees to replant in the yard after. I love real trees! Living trees are a great green option for those with yards

Real! Growing up we always had one of each but that's too much tree for our little house now.

Real. Usually Douglas Fir.
@HeatherlovesKenny: @MungBean: Have you found a lot of spiders in your trees? I can't remember ever seeing one! Cats, on the other hand...

Real! After DH and I got our first tree together, there he caught a cold and teased me by saying he must be allergic to the tree. I would be so sad. I don't think Christmas would ever be the same.

@Minnie_Girl: only once, we had at least a dozen. DH used raid all over the tree before putting it inside. I wouldn't recommend doing that since a) our tree was covered in poison and b) our house smelt like raid for at least 2 weeks! Lol, not sure if DH thought that one through.

We have fake ones. I want to get a real one when our LO(s) are older one year. Just to experience going to find one, etc.

We have a fake one right now because of rules in our apartment. My dad and I had a fake tree when I was a kid, but when we moved in with my step-mom we always got a real one. Hubs' family always gets a real tree.
We have gotten a real one a few times, and I love it. We always buy the "Charlie Brown" Christmas trees from the lot for cheap.

We have a fake one. The last time we bought a real one the cat wouldn't stay out of it.

Real! My mom always had a fake one because of allergies and so did dh so we decided we would always get a real one. We went and picked one last year and it was awesome I love the smell!

I love real trees but we got a fake tree for our condo and we just keep using it....I love not having to clean up needles almost as much as the smell of a real tree...with a LO in the house the convenience of a fake tree wins out

I have a fake tree but I always wanted to get a real one. Maybe once the kids are older and I feel confident that they won't try to eat the pine leaves or something. Real trees smell so good but I hate the sap!

Real! Nothing can compare. My parents switched to a fake tree a few years ago and it still depresses me. (My mom was sick of the cost/clean-up.) My husband and I have still never had our own tree, because we always go home for Christmas (from Oregon to Arizona), so my parents' tree is the only one I "get."

I love real trees but we don't plan on getting one this year...we have no room and LO is too young and curious! We will use our fake tabletop tree!

We will be a fake tree household bc my husband is really allergic.

Fake! I've never had a real tree. I don't know how to even get it set up in the house.

Wow, interesting that so many people have fake ones. I've always had a real one.

We have a real tree. It's a whole adventure, tromping into the woods together to cut down the perfect tree! I always had a fake one growing up, though.

We always had fake growing up since we would go out of town for Christmas every year. DH is allergic so we have a fake one now. I do love the smell of a real tree, so I have lots of candles that make the room smell like having a real tree.

Fake. I have really bad allergies. And cats. Fake trees are also flame retardant.

We use fake trees since they are so much easier, but I absolutely love real ones. The smell... Ahhh

@HeatherlovesKenny: Oh, no, I have never noticed spiders in them before! And now I am afraid.

@HeatherlovesKenny: Spiders?! I've never found a bunch of spiders in our trees, but now I'll be super paranoid about it
@Mrs squirreld: Your picture makes me excited for Christmas!

Real!! Sometimes we get the trees that are bred not to shed... those are great!
pear / 1728 posts
We used to be strictly real. but I went to a demonstration at an NYC firehouse 2 years ago where the fire chief said "I will never put a real tree in my house again and this is why" and they simulated a tree in an apartment-had one of the lights short an spark, and the entire mock apartment was engulfed in flames in minutes. Freaked me out. Sorry to be debbie downer over here lol. But after seeing that, its gonna take me awhile to get a real tree again
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
We have a fake one because I don't want to deal with the shedding, but I love the scent of a real tree! Maybe in the future we'll make the switch.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@c.sassy: I'm so excited too! I'm making a tree skirt next month! @LivsMama: that IS scarey!! We never leave our tree lights turned on when we leave the house or go to bed.

I love a real tree (my in laws always get one) but they are wayyy to high maintenence for us!! DH always wanted real, but once we got our giant fakey from Costco (pre-lit and amazing!) he changed his mind haha. I love being able to put up my tree the day after Thanksgiving (or even Thanksgiving night haha, shh don't tell!) and not worry about watering, prickly fall out or stickyness!

i love real trees, but we currently have a sad fake one. it's so charlie brown. we'll switch to real trees once our lo is here to pick it out and enjoy it with us.

We always had a fake one growing up - the same fake one every year for my entire childhood, for that matter! So I always wanted a real tree when I got my own place - but for some reason I never got round to it and I've had my own fake tree for the last 13 Christmasses (wow, I feel old!). This year will be our first Christmas in our very own house (we rented before that) and our first Christmas as a married couple so, last year, after Christmas, we threw the fake tree out, saying we'd get a real tree! So hopefully I'll be saying real this year!
coconut / 8854 posts
Fake and prelit! I would never have it any other way! Plus if we got a real one, I think it would entice our cats to climb it even more! We are hoping to only have our tree knocked over 3 times this year. It was knocked over 5 times last year, soooo we are hoping for 3 this year! lol

I grew up with fake trees but DH converted me to real trees last year! I love them!
