I grew up with real, so we only do real now!
Trees are pretty cheap at Home Depot, so we usually go there for our tree. Not the same nostalgic experience as going to a tree lot, but so much more economical!
DH HATES the mess and trail of needles when taking the tree out after the holidays. But last year we figured out a way to contain the mess! I bought a huge plastic painters drop cloth (like $3) and then paid the tree on the cloth and wrapped it up completely. Mess contained!

I grew up with a fake tree and we always had it up early. Once I moved out on my own, I always had a real one. Until now.
DH loathes fake trees but I WANT ONE! The tradition here is they wait until the day or so before Christmas before they put up and decorate the tree! I haven't found any Christmas tree lots and it's impossible to buy a real one at the start of December (when I want to put it up).
Our compromise is to have 1 of each I'm getting my fake tree so I can decorate by Dec 1st and we'll get a real one once they're available. One will be upstairs in the family room and the other downstairs near the doorway. Yay! I can not wait to decorate this year!

Real, usually. We skipped a tree (not counting the countertop rosemary bush from the grocery store) last year on account of no space to sequester it and a curious just-started-walking toddler. I got some grief for it, but I also bought one of those wall decal trees and had my toddler help "decorate" it. It came with a bunch of sticker ornaments. Very cheesy, yes, but it was a fun activity that didn't require cleanup, ongoing attention, or precious space and it actually looked a lot better than I had expected! And yes, I put our presents under it on Christmas Eve. I missed the lights, though.

I grew up on a Christmas tree farm so I insist on having a real tree now. We actually drive 2 hours up to my Dad's every year just to pick out and cut our own tree. It's a nice tradition that I'm excited to start doing with our LO this year!

We switched to a fake one after the year I decorated the tree and broke out in hives. Well 2 years after that, bc I am stubborn and decorated the next one high on Benadryl. I'm not allergic to pine trees so we think it was whatever chemical was sprayed on the tree.

We got our real one from the farm and potted it. We are going on our third year with it. I hope to keep it alive a few more years and then we will go pick another out so LO can appreciate the process.

Real! Last year we got a flocked tree - the ones they spray with fake snow - and it was SO BEAUTIFUL! And SO MESSY! I was finding flock-flakes for weeks after we got rid of it! So no flocking this year, but definitely a real tree:)
