Does anyone know about cloth diaper trainers? My LO is going to start potty training at daycare and they want us to use disposables (easier to put on and off after frequent potty trips I guess)? So I am curious about these cloth trainers I have heard about.

I've seen a few different kinds at our local cloth store. I know flip makes some that look pretty easy and I think you can use the organic cotton inserts from the original flips if you already have them. The key is natural fiber inserts so they can feel the wetness, and a shell that can be pulled up and down, or has snaps for any bigger messes. I can't see how it would be any more messy or complicated than a disposable pullup!

We used Potty Scotty trainers with DD and I really liked them; they're cheap but durable and small enough for little toddlers (some cloth trainers, like Gerbers were just huge on my tall, but skinny daughter). The only thing I did not like about Scotty Potty training pants is that they pull on just like regular underwear, which can be a huge pain with a poop accident. Ugh. I've since seen some training pants with sides that open (Kissa's is the brand I was looking at), so I think we'll try those out with DS this summer.
Eta: Kissa's are pocket inserts (I think). Potty Scotty/Potty Patty pants and Blueberry training pants are both very similar to what you're describing (all in one) that have great reviews online, though.

@MerryC: Thanks! Do you know if the Flip insert is attached? Our daycare requires everything to be assembled. So it would need to truly be like a pull up (we send pockets now).

We used Blueberry trainers but only because at the time, I couldn't find regular underwear small enough in the timeframe I needed it. It was good (I didn't want any PUL in the trainer the way some of them are) I liked them but next time I'll plan ahead a little more and just have regular undewear and skip trainers all together.

@pelikila: I guess I didn't realize that some had PUL and some didn't.
I need something that basically functions as a diaper but is easy to get on and off? Would like the Grovia Trainer (with the stretchy sides) work?

We went straight to Gerber training pants. They're a little pricey, but they have helped. They aren't like disposable trainers, in that they don't catch everything if it's a big pee! But I still like them a lot. If I was really worried about a 'mistake' (i.e., we were going somewhere it would have been an issue), I put an unstuffed cloth pocket on over the Gerber pants. That way the pee didn't leak until we got to the bathroom.

We used the imse vimse ones, they were pricey but could hold a full accident and they could feel it (and it was not pleasant by all accounts.) We really only used them for outings where am accident would be a big issue or long car rides and they out grew the need quickly. They were just as easy as underwear to pull up and down.

My son started potty training young so these worked well for a teeny trainer. We had a lot of success with flip trainers and grovia as far as waterproof. We love the blueberry trainers now that he is mostly trained. We did not have any success with the fuzzibun trainers which I really wanted to like. The leg holes are way too small.
