How old is your LO? That directly impacts how many clothes I buy.

My LO is 17 months right now so I buy about 5 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of sweatpants, 5-10 sweaters and about 10 shirts as a mix of long sleeve and short sleeve. He will likely be in this size for awhile so I feel that is the minimum but to avoid doing a lot of laundry we usually end up with more.

I buy a mix of used if I can find decent stuff at consignment/thrift stores, but I mostly buy new from several stores and always with coupons!

I only buy new clothes when they are on sale.

I honestly buy a lot of used. We have a nice consignment shop in my town, and I am also an ebay addict. LO will be 7 months this week and grows out of everything so quickly. Also, so many times I can't find the clothes I want for him in the store, and I can find them easier on ebay. I would say we have a weeks worth of outfits that fit him at one time with one or two outfits for church per size.

A mix! When new I only buy clearance/sale and/or with coupons and no more than $5/item for general items like tops and bottoms. Used my rule of thumb is around $2/top or bottom.

I mainly stick to more inexpensive brands like Carters, Old Navy or TCP. I only get stuff from Gap when they are on crazy clearance + %off! I scored a super cute dress for $7!

We purchase everything new.

A mix. Mainly new, and majority of the time only on sale/clearance. I will go to a consignment sale once or twice a year and pick up a few pieces here or there

@littlebittyhouse: at this age, used!! She has hand-me-downs and clothes we got from the consignment sale. All are in excellent condition. All we need to buy after getting used outfits are tights, socks and onesies!

Like @mrs. bee - a lot of people will sell bags of clothes for cheap! I stick to $2/item. Sometimes I will spend a little more if the clothes are name brand or if they are in larger ranges (like 18-24 mo rather than 18 month).

Both! My friend has given us a ton of hand me downs from her daughter. I buy new. I also am planning on going to a consignment sale in August for fall/winter items. Especially for day care clothes.

@littlebittyhouse: i buy and sell everything on my listserv! from kid stuff to household stuff -- i can find just about anything. it's awesome!

On sale, a few seasons old because I hoard big sales! But my mom usually over buys for DD, so it's been awhile since I've bought anything except for her outerwear since it's a LO easier to find here where it's cold.

@shopaholic: they are very local so you have to google to see if there is one in your neighborhood. ours happens to be super active since it's in a family dense area of ny where it is already dense with people.

basically it's just an email list and people post stuff they have for sale. i've purchased everything from a train table to hunter boots to a stroller off of it... then i sell it when i'm done!

We do both. I'm kind of trying to figure out how to build a "wardrobe" for my daughter, too. She is 3.5 months now. We have a great local consignment shop where I buy a lot of her clothes. I look for high quality brands. I get her a lot of Zutano stuff there- bright patterned overalls, pants, one pieces, etc. I'll also probably get her fall jacket/vest there (and those things I try to buy gender neutral, so we can use them again for our second LO).
I just ordered a BUNCH of solid, bright colored onesies- both long and short sleeve. Having one solid color piece makes it easier for me to put together a variety of outfits.

Until she can walk she will usually be in soft pants/onesies and one pieces. I bought her a few dresses, but they often annoy me because they get all bunched up in the car seat or the front pack and I think that must be uncomfortable for her.

I also shop sales. I'm a little snotty about brands- but don't have the money for it! I keep an eye on Zulilly for brands I like (Zutano, Hanna Andersson, etc). I shop Tea Collection, Mini Boden, and Polarn o Pyret sales. I am a sucker for mini Boden- but they often have good % off deals- and again, I try to buy gender neutral so we can reuse it! We live in a cold climate and are outdoors a lot, so I bought her some wool long johns and stuff like that from a P.O.P sale this summer.

I have found that the lap-neck onesies I bought second hand are a little stretched out. So I went to the Carter outlet nearby and got a bunch of plain white ones there.

I have a little too much fun shopping for her. I need to focus on clothes for me!

ETA: I can't believe I just wrote that much about how I shop for a 3.5 month old. Clearly I need some hobbies.

Used & new. I shop sales/clearance and ebay for brands I love but aren't local or are too $ new.

I buy new but would gladly accept hand me downs! I was the dummy that had the first baby (and a boy! everyone has girls). Fortunately my best friend reaps the rewards to being next in line to DS's clothes (and my maternity clothes). I tend to over-shop sometimes and a lot of items still have tags on them when they get to her.

Both. As she gets older, the less I buy used. Clothes just get so abused as they grow! And I'm pretty picky about what I would buy used anyway. Typically boutique brands or with tags. Or I'll use hand me downs from my SIL.

@Mrs. Bee: oh I see! I think I did Google it before and searched for FB groups, but no luck. DH and I were just talking about how even CL finds are rare and still rather pricey in our county. His colleagues all said they'd rather just give things away than well and risk having some weirdo come rob or kill them (too much news). Sorry the thread jack.
