What is your policy on friending co-workers on Facebook? I originally did add them and now I have 70+ people from work clogging up my feed. They even have a Facebook group where the part-time people talk about trading shifts. And now my boss is showing up under people you might know. I kind of want to delete most of them, but I don't want any drama. I'm thinking I may have to start over with a new account.

You can just hide them and have them see limited profile?

I only add people I hang out with in real life outside of work, and sometimes people after they've left.

I only have a couple of work people. But, I agree with @junebugsmama that a limited profile is a good idea

I'm friends with about 7 co-workers or now former coworkers. You can limit what they see. Like my former boss never saw any of my statuses. I didn't want him seeing when I would be on Facebook. He was a cool boss and would never go on FB. So I was never worried... Just cautious. You can pretty much limit and prevent people from seeing certain parts of what you post. You can hide photo albums from them, too.

I don't friend them unless they've left the company. You never know when you'll forget that you have a coworker(s) friended and post something you'd rather not discuss in the office. That happened to DH a couple of weeks back... it was a silly thing, but he was upset anyway when he realized he'd posted something personal and a coworker saw it, because people in his office love to gossip.

Only if we're good friends outside of the office. I don't generally post anything overly controversial though. Just pictures here and there and sharing funny stuff, contests etc.
I agree a limited profile is the way to go for you!

Just put them all in one group labeled "work friends" and then block that group from all status updates and wall posts and pictures, unless you specifically make something visible to them. That's what I do with our families!

Limited profile is an option, however, several of them have said they stalk my Facebook to see pictures of kids so they would probably notice if I switched them to limited profile.

I just had my first co-worker (boss, actually) friend request this week. My policy had been not to friend anyone, but I can't exactly say no to my boss. I spent too long adjusting my settings to hide most pics and posts from her and then accepted, but she's on it all day hocking 21 day fix so I'm less worried now lol.

I only am "friends" with former co-workers. If we are currently working together, denied.

I did at my first job: My co-workers all added me and I accepted. After a couple of years I was really unhappy with the company and with some specific people there. I resigned, and then had to deal with seeing them all over Facebook for a while. I didn't feel like I could unfriend people without burning bridges that I worked very hard to keep in tact.
Since then I have had a simple, "no co-workers on Facebook" policy. It can be a little awkward explaining that to people, but nobody really seems offended and I avoid all potential stress/mess!

I friend people on facebook that I consider friends or at least friendly in real life. That includes some coworkers, but not all.
I also regularly use the "hide from news feed" option because it's easier than un-friending. They'll never knew you hid them, and you never have to see their posts unless you get curious and search for their page. The only downside of this is they can still see everything you post, but I don't care about that at all.

I don't request to be friends, but if coworkers request me then I add them; I do have a group called work where I can block them from seeing status updates and tagged photos. I never post anything I would have issues with anyone seeing though.

My personal account is super private, so people have a hard time finding it. I'm only friends with three people, one is my work BFF, the other I was friends with and recruited to work here, and the third and I don't work that closely together.
I have a separate account that I use ONLY for work (I never post there, I just have that account to link to the accounts I manage for work so they aren't linked to my personal account) and people usually find that account more easily so if they push, I friend them there and look super boring.

This is the reason I have stopped using facebook almost entirely. A coworker complained about an assignment and I "liked" her comment - just commiserating, not making any statement about the assignment itself or anything. I got called into the bosses' office almost immediately. It seems slightly over the top to me that I was chastised about this - but that was enough to push me over the edge and keep me from sharing anything on FB. I don't "like" hardly anything anymore. Just remember that it is NEVER completely private.

I don't friend anybody from work unless they/I have left and we are still good friends. Like the story @shellio: mentioned, you never know who might see something because they are friends with someone else who liked or commented on your post and I just don't want to deal with that.

only those who I'm really close with. At my old job, I was close with a lot of my coworkers and we're still friends. At my current place I'm not really "friends" with any of them so I wouldn't FB friend them

From the boss perspective. Don't do it. I have 2 on my account but I knew one years before I worked with her and became the boss. The other is in the same dept and I did add her to just be nice. But they are friends with some of my other employees so when they get tagged in a post or photo I see it in my news feed. There have been times that I've seen things that they probably would be ashamed to know their boss saw those things. I've also had one former employee who would post rants about his job and tag the co-workers. Which I saw and kept a copy of for just in case we needed it later. People don't realize how easy it is to see all/hear all.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I do like the idea of having a separate account for professional contacts. I also recently signed up for LinkedIn and was thinking about slowly adding them there and defriending on Facebook.

I am friends with past (and like way past) and present co-workers; but no one that I ever directly reported to (actually yes! 1! But she was only my boss for like 3-4 months).
I feel comfortable b/c I mostly just post pics of my baby anyway!

I have 4 work BFFs that I'm friends with. They're the only people I've added, but no one else is requesting to be my friend either. I don't post anything big except for pictures of LO or use Facebook while I'm working, so it's less of an issue for me.
The one thing I'll never do is accept a friend request from my boss, but she also would never friend request me either.
