Anyone going to try to watch or listen in to the Comey Hearing today? It's at 10:00 and I assume will be aired live and on-line. I'm at work, but instead of listening to Pandora, I'll try to listen in to the hearing if I can!

I'm going to try! It's right in the middle of kid pickup and park time for me, but I'll see if I can stream some of it.

After reading his prepared remarks the hearing is going to be epic. Trump was correct when he said Comey told him three times he was not under investigation, which I feel is being under reported. Trump's interactions with him pretty sleezy though.
Unfortunately, I will have to catch up via CNN and the evening news.

I happen to be free then so it will definitely be on! My boss is just as obsessed with politics these days as me so maybe I'll invite her over to watch on the big screen in my classroom

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Yeah, I thought it was really interesting that Comey really did tell Trump three times that he, personally, was not being investigated. But I agree - the interactions seem kind of sleazy. It's going to be interesting!

I actually kind of lost interest after reading the information that came out.
As others mentioned - it appears the statements about not being personally investigated were true. This was one thing I was interested to hear.
Otherwise - I did find it a bit slimey the way the conversations went but I also did not find it shocking or anything I suspect is out of the norm for washington DC interactions. Sounds like Trump wanted Loyalty...sounds like Comey never gave it but also never denied it. Lots of ambiguity in the talk - not shocking.

@Mrs D: But I mean, what are you supposed to say when the president asks for your loyalty? Trump asked him repeatedly and Comey multiple times said he could give him honesty. And Trump took that as "honest loyalty". Can we really expect him to have flat out told the president he could and would not pledge his loyalty to him?
I'm interested in watching, but I'm curious if there's really more expected than what was in the written statement?

I'm at work, so I can't watch, but I may try to at least stream audio. I read that bars and restaurants in DC are having viewing parties!
coconut / 8861 posts
I'm going to watch and pack up the kids for the weekend getaway. I heard that bars are opening up early for it and offering free shots when 45 tweets during it in DC.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@cascademom: OMG, that's too funny! Supposedly the plan is for the President to NOT tweet during the event, but we'll see how well he sticks to that.
coconut / 8861 posts
@Adira: I'd be shocked if he didn't tweet during it or soon after. 45 has such a thin skin and loyalty issues that this hearing has got to be nagging at him.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@ShootingStar: I think we are agreeing. I would not have expected a high ranking official to pledge loyalty that blatantly. But I also dont think "pledging loyalty" has to mean absolute corruption. Nor do I think a request for loyalty indicates wrong doing. Loyalty could take many different meanings.
I think the whole release yesterday (and likely what he says today) is just a big dud. Much ado about nothing. I think Comey proved last summer that he was super careful not to throw any major players under the bus (read: HRC)...I think it will be the same today. He'll say essentially what he wrote in the memos and releases yesterday and no major bombshells.
I think this is much more just a media spectacle and I cant wait for it to end.

He has such a smug look on his face...I think he truly loves this attention...

I'm watching with LO at breakfast. It's 7AM here. I have to leave for work at 7:45AM.
My general impression from the written testimony is that Trump doesn't understand/care about the ethical norms guiding FBI/President interactions. I am unsure about obstruction of justice.
pear / 1521 posts
@Mrs D: I think it's really hard to have the right "look" on your face during this kind of interaction.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@petitenoisette: this isnt exactly a "new" situation for him...he's been around this merry-go-round before...

i was so hopeful that this would lead to 45's demise but it doesn't look like that will be happening

Comey might not be my favorite person, but I think he's a man that's been wronged by the Trump administration and now we're going to see how that plays out.
I don't think there's a Trump smoking gun, but the lack of knowledge about, or complete disregard of (whichever it is), general ethics from Trump and his administration is disgusting. "Not knowing" is not an excuse for the President of the US! I mean, come on.
grapefruit / 4321 posts
@Mrs D: Perhaps he just picked up the smug facial expression from having to spend so much time around Donald Trunp, the most smug human on the planet?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Damn, I had a meeting scheduled, so I missed the beginning. Any bombshells?
pear / 1521 posts
@Truth Bombs:
haha thank you
@Anagram: This article http://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/james-comeys-conspicuous-independence really helped me understand why Comey did what he did regarding the HRC investigation and the just perfect storm of events that led to the fateful Comey letter. I think he might be a little overly obsessed with his reputation as an impartial person but I don't think he is a terrible person, he is definitely not a showboater (pot meet kettle) and I don't think he is relishing his role in all of this.
pear / 1521 posts
@Adira: He called the white house liars in regards to the reasons for his firing.
I'm watching with low expectations for anything new and those expectations are mostly being met.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@petitenoisette: Thanks for the update!
Yeah, I don't actually imagine we'll learn anything new that wasn't in his written testimony.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Comey says he believed he was fired because of the Russian investigation.
grapefruit / 4321 posts
I'm also on team "this is going to be a dud". I so wish it wouldn't be, but I don't think anything is going to shock us that we don't already know.
pear / 1718 posts
The "bombshell" is that Comey made it clear that Mueller is going to investigate obstruction of justice.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@pwnstar: Oh, I missed that. Though that doesn't seem like much of a bombshell. I had assumed that would be part of Mueller's investigation.
eggplant / 11716 posts
Well, he did just say very plainly that Russia did meddle in the US election, and it did come from high up in the goverment, it was a coordinated and very well planned attack to sway the US elections.
That's domething that Fox news isn't going to be in a hurry to report, since most people that only watch Fox news are still saying there wasn't any Russian meddling and "Russia is our friend".
eggplant / 11716 posts
AND Comey was just asked directly, "Do you believe that Trump or Trump administration colluded with Russia"? And Comey said he could not answer that question in an open setting.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
WTF is McCain talking about? Why does he think the Hillary investigation stuff is at all relevant??
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
McCain is talking like he doesn't understand that the investigation into Clinton's e-mails are not at ALL related to the investigation into collusion between Americans and Russia to interfere with our election.
pear / 1718 posts
@Adira: He doesn't. At least, he doesn't want them to be separate so that he can continue to push his narrative.
Also-exactly this:
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@pwnstar: Yeah, exactly! Listening to him was making me feel like I was the crazy person because he was making no sense!
pear / 1558 posts
I listened to most of it on NPR. I think everything he's said had been discussed before or was in his written testimony, but I still find it all interesting & hope the truth will all be discovered & ALL those involved will be held accountable as appropriate.
Side note: I've always had a fair amount of respect for John McCain, but he sounded nonsensical during his opportunity to question Comey.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@GoGoSnoGirl: Yeah, agree with regards to McCain. The whole line of questioning seemed weird, especially since McCain hasn't really been a big fan of Trump in the past. Dragging the Hillary stuff up seemed so bizarre.
pear / 1718 posts
@Adira: @GoGoSnoGirl: Even Rubio said that he had a hard time following McCain.
