Ok so I read ferber.. Or the important parts. And I'm still confused about night feedings. I plan to keep at least 2 for now then slowly night wean. So say I decide to feed him at 1 am and he wakes up at 1230. Do I just do checks until 1 and if he is still awake pick him and feed him? Will this confuse him?

I am bumping this even though it's super old because I am wondering the same thing. We will be starting sleep training soon and I want to make sure I have all my bases covered. We plan on keeping 2 night feedings for now as well until we can slowly wean to 1.

@ellewoods84: we decided to keep one feeding when we sleep trained charlie at 4.5 months. we decided to feed him if he woke up after 12am. but he very quickly dropped that one feeding and started sleeping through the night. once they know how to put themselves to sleep, they start sleeping longer stretches and you may find they don't need 2 feedings.
if you want to keep just one, i think it's easier to cio the first wake up, then feed any time after 4am. that's when babies have a strong shift in their sleep cycle and it's hard to settle back down. if you want to keep 2, set times and stick to them.

I'm the LAST person to take sleep advice from ....but 12:30 is so close to 1, I'd just go ahead and feed him then if he woke up.
