LO was sick this past week with a fever, but she is better as of today. She has been coughing at night for about 10 days now (she was coughing at night prior to getting sick), and i am wondering if this is something normal, or if i should go to the doctor? She doesn't cough at all during the day, but coughs periodically through the night.
(I called our province's health line but they won't answer me unless i can assess her...and i am not going to wake her up!)

is there any wheezing to her cough? do you have a humidifier in her room?

@Mrs. High Heels: no wheezing. Yes, we have a cool mist humidifier (it is extremely dry where we live). They daycare folks also mentioned that she has been coughing during her nap.

For me, I would take my LO in just to get her lungs listened to if you're worried. Sometimes coughing does linger after a cold.

@Freckles: my LO coughed for 2 weeks after her fever subsided over the holidays and i didn't take her to the doc. it did eventually go away on its own.
i ask about wheezing bc if you ever do hear some sort of wheezing, it would be important for you to take her as soon as you can.

My son had a nighttime cough for a whole month! We tried everything we could think of to reduce allergens but the cough still persisted. Then we tried an inhaler but it didn't work. We finally gave him some antibiotics and it went away in 3 days. We think it was a sinus infection.

This always happens when my LO gets a cold. His pediatrician had a great explanation for why it happens at night, but I can't remember what he said at the moment. Basically, though, he was just fine and he said it was normal when he checked him out. Go with your mommy gut, if you think your LO needs to be seen make an appointment.

We just took LO in after about a week of consistent nighttime coughing. The pediatrician said she looks fine and nighttime coughing is very common during a cold. In addition to humidifier he recommended elevating the head end of the crib. That has helped a bit since laying flat seems to make her cough more.
