I did a major closet clean out recently with a capsule wardrobe in mind. I WAH, so most of my stuff is really casual to begin with, and I really don't have that many clothes compared to most women.
Today I ordered a black cashmere v neck cardigan and a somewhat "dressy" sweatshirt top. What I would love are 3 more everyday dresses, but I find it's hard to find somewhat timeless styles that aren't too dressy for WAH and playing with my LOs. I don't think I really need anything else though!

@looch: I implemented this for my maternity wardrobe (LO#2 is due 6 mos after DD was due so totally diff wardrobe). I have been able to use all my old stuff to date (4 mos now) and my new wardobe has:
Work: 2 dresses, 6 cardigans/wraps, 3 sweaters, 3 LS blosues, 2 SS blouses, 2 pants
Casual: 2 jeans, 3 LS tops, 3 SS tops plus I mix in the cardi's/wraps from above.
I dont count cami's and layering tanks.
Once I settle in to a size PP I plan to implement a somewhat similar idea - so far this is what I plan for my collection (somewhat varied by season)
Work - 2 dresses, 1-2 blazers, 4 cardi's, 4 blouses, 2 pants and 1 skirt.
Casual - 3 pants, 8 tops, 2 skirts/dresses (2 add'l in summer)
I plan to have 2 outerwear options per season...likely vest (spring/fall/winter); light coat (Spring), light coat (fall), heavy coat (winter).
I also plan to drop down in shoes.
Work: 4 year round, 2 seasonal
Casual: 2 active, 1 running, 2 heels, 2 flats (2 add'l Sandals for summer)

I feel like my biggest problem is that I chose a lot of neutrals and stripes this year and everything looks pretty similar. On the plus side, almost everything mixes and matches. Here's Some of the stuff I created on stylebook.
