DH and I throw around lofty dreams of moving to a warmer state. My job is flexible and can 100% be transferrable/remote. DH cannot but is interested in looking for jobs within his company's HQ area (in another state).
It's definitely a possibility, though not a realistic one for the time being.

I would love to move to a different part of the country. My company and DH's company have sites all over the country so it's a possibility but we do get free childcare three days per week from family so it would be costly to do it before LO is in school.... and moving away from family support would be a terrible idea in general right now!

Yes. We've done it before will do it again eventually. DH could transfer to another location within his company, but he isn't interested in staying with them.

It would be easy for DH and I find a job wherever we moved. Would we want to leave behind family and friends and cheap housing/land is the question though... haha

It'd have to be a state that has lots of manufacturing for me to be able to get another job. DH's is more loose (construction project management), but mine's the niche.

Not easily. DH is a tenured professor and I work in sort of a unique field, so it would be difficult. Luckily we have no plans of going anywhere

I wouln't ever want to! I don't even want to move out of our general region. My family is here, DH's family is here. We have such an awesome support network being away from them would suck!

Yep! We've been talking about it a lot lately. I thought we were lifers in New York, but career-wise, I feel like it's a handicap to have a family. In my industry you're expected to work long hours. I love all the options, culture, walkability and diversity here but I am sort of itching for a change. But we would never see our families...we see them very little as it is. They resent us for moving "this far" away (3 hour drive or train ride)

We could, but it would largely depend on where DH could find a new job (I could probably work remotely). However, all our family lives here and DH and I both love our jobs so it would take something extreme to make us move. That being said, I dream of moving to a place where winter is not 6 months long like it is here. Maybe when we retire!

it would be pretty difficult with my husband's job. it took him 2 years to get a job in his desired field and it's in the location that wasn't ideal to us, but we had to follow the job. we already live as far away from family as i want to be, so it wouldn't be a long term move.

We could, but I feel like we are so established now with friends, jobs, church, physicians, etc. I hate to think about starting over. Although I think of how fun it COULd be...

DH's job requires a lot of moving, so we've already moved from TN to CO and back. Since I don't work, and plan to homeschool at least for a while, we're pretty good on moving whenever. Though he did put his foot down and say they aren't allowed to move us till after LO is here. I think we'll be here around another 18 months. I do wish they hadn't waited until I was pregnant to ask us to move to Trinidad though; that would have been amazing!

If we wanted to, yes. DH is a contract worker and could easily find another job somewhere else. We moved before LO somewhere random for us just for the experience and would have kept moving around if she wasn't here. We bought a house and want stability plus we like the area we're in so we have no plans to move right now. Maybe we'll travel around again though after the kids go to college though.

@lawbee11: Me too! I take it from your name you are an attorney? I am as well, and DW is a tenured professor. That makes it REALLY hard to leave but luckily we are content to live here and travel elsewhere!!

I have many times in the past, and we did so most recently in September. We bought a house here a few weeks ago and are planning to put down roots and stay a while. I'm finally tossing my moving supplies!
ETA: I can't waive into the bar here, so I'm locking myself in as a SAHM until the girls are in school and I want to sit for that again. I'm at peace with the idea that I may not practice again though and may use the degree in other ways when the time comes.

We just moved cross country, and would do it again if the right job came up in Toronto or Atlanta (to be closer to family) or Dallas (cheaper and to be closer to friends).

D's company has warehouses in 2 other states, so he could theoretically transfer to one of them, but I work for the state government here, so I couldn't.

Yes, we moved to London for 6 months and then we moved from the midwest to the mountains last year. We're really happy where we are so I hope we don't move again. Although my husband would love to retire in Europe or some tropical island.

We have talked about moving to a different province, on the east coast, but I would miss my family so so much. That is the only thing holding us here, because DH would be up for the move in a heartbeat.

I've done it 4 times, but not in a few years. I don't mind doing it when there is opportunity at the other end, but it is hard. We have been in our current city for 3 years, and it is so nice to be somewhere long enough to really settle in! We will have to see if I get the 7 year itch

We moved to another country and back.... so yeah, I could see us doing it. Not in the forseeable future though. DH has to finish his degree first, but he'd probably be able to look around after that. Jobs in his area seem to concentrate East Coast. I work for a small business, so Id have to find a new job. Im also a stage actor, so Id want to go somewhere with a good theatre/acting industry.

We could, but not easily and have no interest. My husband is a tenured professor so the offer would have to be tenure + better than current position, and there are not a ton of open tenure-track positions just sitting around. 
I love the company I work for, and although they have other offices, I don’t want to move to any of the states they are located in.
Plus, my parents live 30 minutes away and MIL just moved cross-country so live near us, so I’d feel too guilty/assholish to leave.

@Mrs. Jacks: rebuilding a village is no joke! That is part of the reason that we are glad that we like it here. Moving is hard, but moving with kids to a place with no village is not something to do lightly!

@LovelyPlum: When I reflect on the local support we got from friends after M's birth compared to what we got for Theo, it's like night and day. Not to say we didn't have support with M-- we certainly did! It was just such a smaller circle. We got about a week's worth of meals with her and a few offers of babysitting. Meanwhile, with baby Theo, we are STILL getting meals. It's been completely awesome and speaks to the amazing village we have built in our community (and the amazing-ness of the community itself!)
