A couple was sailing on an extended trip with their 1 year old and 3 year old. The 1 year old got really sick and they had to be rescued this week. Their ship sank.

I read this article and was immediately struck that they had to defend their choices. I'm not a sailor, but they are, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they weighed the risks and benefits and did what was right for their family. I can't say whether or not I would have done it for logistical reasons, but I don't think there was anything inherently wrong or dangerous about sailing with their kids.
