There’s no point to this, but I just need to rant. DS2 went back to preschool on Monday after the center had been closed since March. We got a notice today that a kid tested positive today who was in school yesterday! Seriously!?! The first day!?!? DS1 also did one week of summer camp this summer because there was a positive COVID case the first week and after the subsequent quarantine I was too nervous to go back so I cancelled the rest of the summer. Grr! I’m just so frustrated! I know so many families who’ve been in daycare all summer without a single case!

Sorry friend! My lo was sent home from 9/21-10/1 For exposure so I can relate. But we made it through and I sent her back. What can you do

So sorry, that’s so tough!
We opted for on-line this year, but still get our home school’s emails. The kids are in a hybrid model, twice a week for 5 hours. Now a water main broke and they are out of school entirely for two weeks. I can’t imagine the childcare headache.

So crazy! We went back to daycare in July. Since then, we’ve had 1 teacher test positive but none of the kids. The closed down the daycare for a couple days and weekend when it happened and also had the rest of their staff tested and all came back negative. So we’ve been really lucky!

Oh no, I'm so sorry!
Our province just moved from 'show up and wait in line' testing to 'book an appointment online' testing - they shut down all testing on Sunday and reopened it under the new protocol on Tuesday. My friend's four year old started coughing on Sunday, so she went to the booking system, went through the process, and the appointment it gave her is NEXT TUESDAY. Nine days! Plus then it takes 3-5 days to get the test back, which means he's out for at least two weeks.

Thanks ladies! The commiseration really helps. This whole pandemic just really sucks... I'm hopeful for the day that we can look back at this time and see that it is behind us. *fingers crossed*

@erinbaderin: Ugh! That's how it was when my son was exposed this summer...1-2 weeks in order to get results. Thankfully it seems to be better for us here now, but it can always change.
@Miss Ariel: Thanks for sharing! It wasn't our class at least, so DS can still go, but the other class and teachers are all out for 2 weeks!
@Jess1483: Yikes! This is all stressful enough, I can't imagine having issues like a water main break on top of it. Guess stress comes from so many sources

I'm sorry, it is so stressful! We had a teacher test positive last week, but only that class was required to close for two weeks. Our center keeps the classes very separate, and that classroom is even on a different floor than either of my kids' rooms. It's now been a week and a half since she was last at the school and I haven't heard of any more positives, thankfully. Still, it's nerve wracking.

@erinbaderin: The testing situation is so ridiculous. Luckily when my daughter and I were tested, we each were able to get an appointment the day we called about symptoms through our PCPs. But my husband doesn't have a PCP (a whole other annoying issue) and we had to call so many place to get him an appointment to be tested. In all cases, it took 2-5 days for a result.

@JennyPenny: Yuck, I'm sorry. That is both stressful and annoying. DS is still remote, but we've had a few students and staff members have to quarantine because of symptoms at my school. Luckily we've only had one confirmed case.

@MrsSCB: Thanks for this - it makes me feel much better. It wasn't DS's class that had the positive and I was pretty hesitant to send him back today. But in theory they're keeping all the classes separate for this reason. I guess time will tell if the processes they have in place work...

@JennyPenny: glad I could help! FWIW, my friends daughter (at a different school nearby) had her actual teacher test positive recently. The health department contacted my friend directly to talk about isolation, etc. I haven’t heard anything from the health department, and I know our school was in contact with them, so they must have decided our exposure risk was low. I also find that comforting!
