We had LO sleep in her pack'n'play, which was in our room. We did this until she was 3 months old at which point we put her in her crib in her own room. I never fed her in bed - I just put the glider in our room as well and fed her there...

I tried out the bassinet for about a week but my daughter cries out a lot in her sleep so I had to move her into the crib in the nursery so we could get some rest. She did fine there. If you are concerned about getting into a co-sleeping habit then I think doing everything in the nursery does help. My daughter has never co-slept with us. While it was probably more work in the beginning to get out of bed, go down the hall, into her room - I think it does help prevent going down the co-sleeping route.

charlie and olive slept in their crib from day 1, but we had a bed in their rooms so i slept in there. i also feed in the glider, but i fall asleep in it all the time!

hmmm. if i can do crib from day 1, maybe i should change my crib on my registry. got the argington - goes from bassinet to toddler. but i could get the crib to adult instead... hmmm.;

I did crib from day 1. DD talks in her sleep and I would never have gotten any rest. It would have been easier in our room for feedings, but we were able to work it out so my husband would help by getting her for me and taking her back to her crib sometimes.

We also used the Fisher Price rock n play in our room for about 2 months. Then we moved the rock n play into the nursery and he still slept there fore another couple months.

We put a twin bed between our bed and the wall, so that LO was in his own area but I could still feed him easily without getting out of bed. For me that was a lot easier because when I had to physically get out of bed and walk to the crib it was a lot harder for me to fall asleep afterward. I think it is a matter of personal preference though, whatever works for you.

We planned on using a co-sleeper (from family friend) for the first month or so, but recent warnings about them have me doubting whether to do this.

Like @Mrs. Yoyo: many of my friends have used the rock n play and we may do that too. I'd like to put the baby in his crib around 6-8 weeks.

We have a bassinet in our room, right next to my side of the bed. I can just reach over and pick her up for her feedings. I've never had her sleep in our bed... too afraid I'd roll over her.

I had planned on using the bassinet on my pack n play and placing it next to our bed but I had a rough recovery and couldn't get out of bed easily so we ended up co-sleeping the first 8-10 weeks. We moved her to her crib afterwards but it was a difficult transition since she was used to sleeping with body heat and it was still winter and cold. Eventually, we had to sleep train her at 4 months to get her sleep through the night.

I think we're going to use the bassinet in our room for the first few months (I don't care if I end up co-sleeping while nursing because it's not a big deal to me) and then moving bebe to his/her room and crib around month 4.

We did what @rubies did, pack and play in our room and moved the rocker/recliner in so i could nurse in there. i actually slept in the recliner the first week i was home bc our bed is high and i couldn't get in and out comfortably as i was recovering from the c-section. i think we moved him to the crib in his own room at about 2 months and it was a smooth transition. next time i will either do the same or do what mrs. bee did and sleep in the bed in his room.

@Mrs. Yoyo: +@williamsh2: From your experience with the FP rock n play, do you think it would be suitable for the first 5 months? We live in a very small Parisian apartment and will be moving stateside when baby is 5 months, so I wanted to hold off on buying a real crib until we get to the US.

@Chastenet: It worked for us until 5 months or so. My LO went to the crib when he started waking up sooner from naps in the rock n play.

@Chastenet: You could probably get away with it, but it definitely isn't suitable once they start being able to sit up. Also, Baby Y started looking fairly cramped in it around 4 months, but he's pretty big and long. He was still under the weight limit, though.
