DD woke up this morning with dark red stuff on her ear. She's acting totally normal and hasn't acted like her ear hurts. We called the pediatrician and they said it's probably just ear wax. Has anyone ever seen anything like this??

That looks more like dried blood than ear wax to me, although that could just be the picture...I'm not sure. Could she have had something like a cut or bite in her ear that she scratched and caused to bleed? Maybe you could e-mail the picture to the doctor...

that definitely looks like dried blood. if you can't find a scratch or bite that would be a source of the blood i would call the doctor back and ask about a busted ear drum.

@Irunforfun - yeah I was kinda worried that something crawled in her ear and bit her. But it eases my mind that she's acting normal.

DD had wax that looked like that after her tube were put in. I was convinced it was blood, but the pediatrician said that it was excess fluid mixing with the wax in her ear.

Just an update....took DD to the doctor the day after this and her ears were fine. Must've just been ear wax. Very strange.

Maybe she just scratched herself in the night?
