So, my favorite part of living in the Dallas area is the annual State Fair of Texas! I have heard it's the biggest and most heart attack-inducing of all the state fairs, and I love sampling the ridiculous, deep fried concoctions! Each year they have a contest for the best new food creation, and this year's finalists include chicken fried cactus bites and fried bacon cinnamon rolls, both of which I will be sampling. (Don't worry, you can get deep fried salad if you are a health nut!) Is anyone else a state fair lover? Do you have a favorite fair/carnival food?

Yes, yes, yes! I'm going to be hugely pregnant during the Texas state fair this year and I will waddle around to get all of the fried goodness into my belly, damnit!
Fried peanut butter and jelly, funnel cake, and CORN ON THE COB. Come to butthead.

There's a place here in Hawaii that has deep fried oreos, deep fried bread pudding a la mode, & deep fried pbj & banana sandwiches. They are so good but SO bad for you! Lucky for us, we don't live super close to them and aren't as tempted to get them. I had never had anything like that fried before (which is a little surprising since I'm from the south! ha!).
@highwire: Fried corn on the cob is the best! My favorite bbq place in my hometown serves it that way and it is awesome!

I went to the Minnesota state fair last year, wonderful by the way, and my DH had everything fried. I was getting nauseous when he was ating deep fried spam curds. Ugh I hate spam.

Our fair was this past weekend and we didn't go. LO is only 3 weeks old so I didn't even bother! My all time favorite is Elephant Ears!

Yum! I've never tried anything fun like that. Ive had the normal funnel cake and fried oreos..... but that's it.

I looove state fairs! Ours in WI was back in the beginning of August. The new food this year at our state fair was called the "Fat Elvis" It was a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup dipped in a banana batter, deep fried, with chocolate and bacon bits drizzled over. It was heaven let me tell you!

I would be interested in going to a fair like yours. I have only seen funnel cake and deep fried oreos or twinkies at my local fair.

I just experienced my first ever giant state fair in the midwest. They're a huge deal out here. I tried a deep fried twinkie. It was delish! They also had deep fried butter, but that one scared me!

@skibobrown: I've had deep fried butter, it's not as scary as it sounds! The breading kind of makes it into a very butter-filled biscuit, so it doesn't seem like you're biting into a stick of butter or anything.

I haven't been to a state fair in a really long time, but I went to college at Bloomsburg in PA, where the BIG PA State Fair is. With our student ID we got free admission, and we all basiclaly gained about 10 extra pounds during Fair Week. We looked forward to it every year. Deep Fried Oreos...my FAVORITE. I took Hubs a few years ago and he loved it. I'd love to go back someday.

I can't wait until the North Carolina State Fair! It's in October and hopefully a bit cooler out. We will totally take M with us - and wear her instead of trying to get a stroller through those crowds.

I miss living in D-town for this very reason!! But, we will definitely make a weekend trip and hit up the fair for a fried Snickers. That's my favorite!

So, this morning, I told DH that I wanted to go to the state fair (at 35+ weeks pregnant), sit down on a bench, and have someone just deliver fried food to me all day. He replied "Sexy!" Haha.

The state fair would be a great meet up location for the Dallas ladies! At least we could eat all the (fried) food without judgment or guilt!
