My sister did with my second so I did a quick picture of my DD's and posted it from my phone before anyone else did with this LO. I wish I would have changed my settings before we went to the hospital so I didn't have to think about it.

Oh my gosh we had to tell everyone to KEEP IT OFF FB!! DH's family is notorious for putting things on FB that no one should be putting on there, because it isn't their place. Thankfully no one did but I'm pretty sure we drilled it in their heads enough beforehand. However, DH's dad announced my pregnancy AFTER we told them not to, but that is a different story.

@mrsmenow: How would you have changed your settings so no one could do this? I'm curious for when the next time rolls around!

You can make it so no one can tag you or write one your wall. Lock it down, lol.

I'm scared that MIL will have it up there before I can even call my brothers. I want people to learn from me. I still have to outright tell her to keep it off facebook. She was good about not announcing my pregnancy until after I gave her the green light, and not saying it's gonna be a girl, so as long as I keep reminding her not to spill it, I *think* I'll be ok, lol.

This is something that really has me worried. My parents and inlaws know about our pregnancy, and DH specifically told his sister that she was not allowed to post anything on FB. It's still in the back of my mind that it's going to leak (either through her or my mother) before I'm ready.

my husband and sister did it. I was okay with it. My husband was pretty much on FB and text updating everyone on my status while I was in labor. When it was time to push I wanted to kick the phone out of his hand and say FOCUS!

This is what I am afraid of. We are going to email both families and tell them that we can't wait to share the news when she is here, send a picture and announce her name. All that we ask in return is NO ONE put anything on FB until we put it on there.

I know certain members of the family would otherwise put something, and even more make it a post about them, ie. I am an Aunt or something.

Not a parent yet but I absolutely HATE that. A friend of my BIL's & SIL's congratulated them on FB immediately after our niece was born. They were team green so it was even more infuriating when I saw "Congrats on the birth of beautiful (insert obvious girls name).".

Who in their right mind thinks that it's okay to blow up someones spot like that? You want to congratulate the new parents... how about a text to them personally? I would be furious if someone did that to me. If you didn't contribute to the making of that child, it's not your place to announce anything regarding him/her.

I'm nervous about this, but I'm going to do what @mrsmenow suggested and make it so people can write on my wall (tags of me already have to be approved). Plus when I'm in labor, I'll probably only tell my mom and BFF, and just tell my BFF not to put anything on Facebook. Then we'll call the in-laws and tell my friends AFTER the baby is born, and hopefully I can put something on Facebook before anyone else does, haha.

I'm worried about this. We have told all our family members that there will be no announcement unless we make it ourselves. No Facebook, no Instagram, no Twitter, nothing. We don't want pics of our LO on Facebook, and we don't want people knowing I'm in the hospital in labor.

I have an FB friend who posted a pic of her DIL immediately postpartum and it made me so angry for the DIL! She is obviously exhausted and you can still see blood in the room, on the blankets, etc. It looked like a scene from Dexter.

I turned off DH n my fb wall because I was afraid of this happening.

My bro was the first to post a pic announcement, but that was after we had done our announcement and turned back our walls, and I ok'ed it

Both of my sisters posted pictures almost at the same time! AND one of them was of me, DH and baby right after the birth. I looked like a mess. At the time I didn't really care....I was too tired. Now I kind of wish that picture wasn't out there but oh well!

I would have been SO irritated, which is why I changed my settings on FB prior to giving birth so that no one could write on my wall.

we didn't because only our immediate families knew when she was born because they live 2+ hours away. they didn't know her name, so we wanted to wait until they arrived and we told them to announce. so no one knew for several hours after she was born and most of my friends were surprised because it was a quick labor and they didn't even know i was in the hospital!
