Huh, never knew...as much as I want to know I think waiting for the 16-20 week period gives you something to look forward too...or else for me it would be a long 30 weeks .....lol

We had cvs, so we knew by 13 weeks. And it's not like an US where it relies on someone's interpretation. 2 X's only means one thing

Huh. I had the Harmony test because I'm over 35, and we wanted an accurate, non-invasive way of testing for the various trisomies that women over 35 are at higher risk for. Learning the sex of the child was a nice side benefit!
If it were just to test for fetal sex, we probably wouldn't have done it. I cant imagine that my insurance would have paid for it though, and that would have factored heavily into the decision.

Nope. I opted out of the extra testing like that, and I don't think I would've trusted the results anyways. If they said girl I'd be nervous that there were still Y chromosomes but the sample they took just missed them, and if they said boy I still would have doubted it this time around, because sometimes even after you give birth the Y chromosome can hang around for a bit, and I got pregnant again pretty soon after giving birth to my son.

I don't think I'd want to know so early. 10 weeks is only a few days later than I had my first m/c, and I'm very grateful we don't know what that one was. Maybe after the first tri was over.

I had a CVS at 13 weeks and was able to find out what we were having. i loved knowing so early!

We found out around 12 weeks from a blood test I had done the same time I had my NT scan. It cost aroun $100.

No, but we were luckily able to see the gender at the NT scan. We would have had to pay a significant amount more for the Harmony test to be elective since we didn't have any risk factors. The NT scan was approved though, so we went that route.
@wonderstruck: genetics doesn't work that way, they don't change or get missed- the chromosomes are either XX or XY, cut and dry in normal situations.

@lemondrop: Then where do the inaccuracies come from? I haven't actually researched it (I'm so not a science person!), I'm just going off of what I've read from others when their gender results from the blood test have been wrong.

@wonderstruck, mosaic DNA pieces can make the results inaccurate. But those are pretty rare, from what I remember being told.

We did maternit21, my husband wanted to minimize ultrasounds and it was worth it to us to pay for the test to be able to skip the 12 week scan. We found out the gender around 12 weeks which was really fun. I was (and mostly still am) really sick and having a hard time even grasping I was pregnant and I certainly wasn't excited so knowing it is a girl helped me get more excited.

I'd def want to know if they can tell at 12 weeks! But I might not trust it and would go back for another one later!

My friend just did this test because she wanted to find out gender early. Results are 99% accurate and she found out she's having a boy. I'm tempted to do this because we don't typically do other testing and I'd love to know early.

My SIL did this test because she was at a higher risk of downs syndrome. She found out she was having a girl at 10 weeks! After she found out I was dying to find out what we are having!! I couldn't justify the cost of the test though.

Around here it isn't offered unless you're over 35, or have other risk factors, boo. Otherwise, I'd totally do it! Knowing baby is clear for genetic issues would be a nice reassurance too.
