@Adira: That is what you need to tell him. Tell him that you are hearing what he is saying but the research you have done is saying that your baby doesn't need it. Reassure him that he is getting more than enough when he is nursing to make up for any possible lack he is getting in the 8 hours. Ask him if he doesn't take enough food to work and doesn't have money he just makes it up in the evening. And that is just fine.

Tell him that if you do go away again, you will provide more milk because he doesn't get the nursing. But when you are away for short periods it isn't needed. Tell him that it is stressful to hear that you are failing from him when you really need his suppport for what you can do.

@brownie: Thank you for the advice!!! Next time he brings up putting more in the bottles, I'll definitely try to say all this to him!

I'm ALSO planning on seeing an LC tomorrow to do a weighted feed at the same time Xander gets one of his bottles at daycare. I'm hoping that if he ends up drinking the same or less than he does at daycare, I'll be able to use this knowledge to reassure my husband that Xander really doesn't need more milk! Of course... if he ends up drinking more than I send to daycare, maybe everyone else is right!

@Adira: I have taken the MMP in tincture form (alcohol free). Since I only pump occasionally, I cannot say how much it has increased my supply, only that we stopped having to supplement with formula I also drink the Mother's Milk Plus.

What I have noticed significantly increasing my pumping output (which again is so sporadic that I can't say reliably by how much) is Brewer's yeast in powder form. That stuff tastes TERRIBLE but I have been hiding it in smoothies, cookies and muffins (just made chocolate chip banana muffins that are pretty good!) The smoothie I get 2 TBSP in and hide in in cocoa powder, peanut butter, frozen banana and milk blended. Seriously, it is TERRIBLE tasting but really seems to make a difference.

@maybebaby: Interesting! I've never heard of that stuff, but maybe it would be worth a try!! Thanks!

@Adira: This is the one I got http://www.amazon.com/Brewers-Yeast-18-oz-Powder/dp/B000EPUPSS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1375379761&sr=8-4&keywords=brewers+yeast

And here is a tasty recipe http://mylittlepoppyseed.wordpress.com/2013/02/28/a-recipe-chocolate-chip-banana-lactation-muffins/

Seriously, before when I would pump I would get dribbles, now I finally have the streams I had heard about!

@maybebaby: Thanks for the info! How much do you think you try to get in in a day to help your supply?

I agree that adding a pump session before bed made the biggest difference for me. It's less about the milk you're actually getting at the session and more about stimulating your body to make more. When I'm good about keeping up with my bed time pump session my day time sessions at work are always more productive.

@MamaMoose: Oh really??? That's interesting. Maybe I'll have to try adding a pump session before I go to bed, even if I don't get a ton out of it!

@Adira: I've mentioned the paced feeding and feeding him upright and they say they're doing it. I have a gut feeling that he's fussing for other reasons. He's only been there 6 days so I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and give him and them time to adjust. It took him and my mom several days to work through it. He usually goes 2-3 hours between feedings during the day at home and then STTN. He doesn't take both breasts though so I don't think he's eating 4oz every feeding at home. I don't know

I hope your weighed feeding tomorrow convinces your husband that you know best!!

@maybebaby: Did the stuff you made with the brewer's yeast retain the taste? (Do you still have to choke down the smoothie?)

@Adira: Also, if you aren't already doing it, try not to drink water more than a few sips about 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after taking MMP so it doesn't get diluted.

@Adira: good luck at the LC tomorrow! And you should try some lactation cookies! If they don't work at least you still got to eat cookies? Trying to stay positive for you here

@cmomma17: Thanks!!! I actually saw the LC today and it went GREAT!!! Xander only ate 4oz from me, so a whole ounce LESS than he usually gets at daycare! And in 10 minutes, it will have been 3 hours since he ate and he doesn't seem hungry to me, so I think I might FINALLY have my proof that he doesn't need more!!!!

@cmomma17: He ended up going FOUR HOURS between feeds!!! Although, in his defense, he passed out before the 3 hours were up, so I just let him sleep, haha. BUT I'm hoping this proves once and for all that he really doesn't need anymore milk! I just hope Hubs doesn't try to come up with some excuse to explain it as a fluke and still insist we give more milk!
