Yep. I got asked both times.
Yep. I got asked both times.

Only with my first...and only by my MIL! Maybe there are two babies in there!

I had a PBK saleswoman ask this a couple weeks ago. I laughed it off because I am NOT that big. The funny thing was I also lied to her about when I'm due because we fudged the due date to get the registry completion discount. So I should've been WAY small for the date I gave her. You'd think working in a kids/baby store she'd know what pregnant women look like, or what not to say.

I did when pregnant with DS.
ETA: I'm not supposed to be talking about the "T word" until I get an ultrasound. DH's rule, lol.

Yep, everyone thought I was either having twins or due 2-3 months earlier than I was. I was huge!!!
clementine / 943 posts
Only once, and by a guy whose wife had just had a baby who was WAY bigger than I was by the time she reached the end of her pregnancy!!! And I was NOT big- I had the cute, basketball under the shirt look, so it was even more uncalled for!!

Yes. When I was only like 6 months along I started getting "due any day now, eh?" type comments. By 8 months, it was "so, twins?!" all the time. Clearly these people never saw anyone who was actually pregnant with twins. Twin belly is some serious bump, and even though I was huge, I was not sporting a twins bump!!

Once with DD only. I was so upset because I already felt awful about myself. It was a coworker and she asked if I was sure there was only one.
honeydew / 7917 posts
No but mainly because I was pregnant in the winter and most people didn't notice my bump unless they saw me from the side.
coconut / 8279 posts
yes! as I checked in for my induction - you gotta think that they see pregnant ladies all time time, right? was I really that big? lol
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
Only once, by a sales guy. But he quickly clarified that he is a twin and that's why he asked.
Around 7 months I started getting the "not long now" comments. That made me a little paranoid but I was measuring right on target. By nine months ppl knew better than to say much.

No! I am sooooo tempted to ask someone I know this but I know better.

A few times at the end of the 2nd/beginning of 3rd trimester. I think because the bump sticks out so much.
nectarine / 2152 posts
Ha, all the time. But, that's because I actually was having twins and was ginormous!
pomegranate / 3890 posts
All the time. then they would hysterically laugh and tell me I was huge. I meet really nice people, apparently.
grapefruit / 4582 posts
Yup. I got it all the time with DD. it made me cry next time I'm just going to say something back like "well that's rude" or "didn't your mother teach you not to ask those kind of questions?"

@Dandelion: laughing at the "T-word" rule a little bit. I thought I was having twins and didn't say anything - I superstitiously never mentioned the "T-word" to anyone, even my husband. He got the shock of his life when we found out there were two... I could have prepared him a little!
I got asked constantly. I tried to tell people that even though they were right this time, it's a terrible question to ask... hard to do without being a killjoy.

Ugh. A coworker asked me a few days after my work shower where it was made clear that I was only having one...

Yes, this time because I have this ridonkulous gut. I laughed and said that it's because I'm super out of shape and that the ultrasound confirmed there was only one.

@Dandelion: Nothing in particular, I just really thought it was twins. For no real reason (there aren't twins in my family) I always thought if I had kids, they'd be twins, and that feeling only got stronger when I found out I was pregnant. Out of character for me because I am not generally superstitious! And I didn't have a particularly dark line or an early positive or anything like that, and no morning sickness or early symptoms to speak of.

Yes! Really early on, and up until 20 or so weeks. I kept saying no, the u/s only found one, and people would claim the u/s could be wrong... which I suppose is true, but jeez. Thanks for telling me I'm huge!!!
grape / 75 posts
@Dandelion: Unbelievably. But then again, I was 100 percent convinced we were having boys (we were team green). I was shocked - SHOCKED - when I was introduced to my daughters.

I was asked once by an acquaintance of my mom's at 32 weeks. 'You're SURE it's not twins? My God, you're huge! Bless your heart!'
The South: where people think saying 'bless your heart' absolves you of saying something idiotic.
nectarine / 2765 posts
Nope, and I am expecting twins. So far people are surprised & think I'm small for twins even though I feel like I've got a big basketball under my shirt. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself that I'll probably balloon towards the end.
pineapple / 12793 posts
Yep. Probably have a dozen times. Once by another dad in our baby care class. But I have a small torso and had a baby the size of most twins combined so I kind of understand.
