Since you really don't know how big your LO will be when they are born, are you buying or did you buy a coming home outfit for them? I think I'd like to splurge on something that yes, I know, she may only wear once.

Yes we did buy something. We actually bought two because we were team green and had my mom wash the girl one once she was born.

I bought a little Carter's "set" in both newborn and 3 month sizes (two different designs). This included hat, short sleeved onesie, cardigan, pants with feet attached, and mitts. It was perfect to bring him home in. And he fit fine into the newborn size. We were then able to use all the pieces in his everyday wardrobe going forward.

I didn't buy anything special. I brought two onesies that were shower gifts (I got so many clothes I didn't have to buy any) in different sizes, both that buttoned in the front so I wouldn't have to put it over her head. But the nurse ended up dressing her anyway.

@Thehistoryofus: OMG! How sweet are those two outfits!!?!? Were you able to return the boy outfit?

We did but she was too small for it. She was even alittle too small for newborn sizes too so she was kind of swimming in her outfit.

I have lots of cute outfits but they are all in size 3 months or 6 months. I havent bought anything in NB size because I just dont think it will fit her. So my baby may end up coming home in an outfit that is huge for her!

We picked an outfit out of all the many clothes we received at showers, but like PP said, he was swimming in it. It was fun, though, to have something set aside for this special occasion. It was really his first outfit ever since the hospital provided shirts and a cap for him until we were discharged.

aww, this thread is too cute. we may or may not get a home coming outfit--haven't decided.

I'll get something special for the little guy - I picked up a few things already but not sure if I'll get something else instead.

Yea it was fun because it was her first outfit since the hospital provided the blankets and shirts. It really was the only NB outift we had. Everything else NB was sleepers or onesies and didn't really have "outfits" until the 3-6 month size.
I also made sure we had a little hat (basic white one) to go with it.
The only thing I didn't like about the dress was that when we put her in the carseat, the straps kinda pressed on her legs so we put a pair of white pants with it (even though it was August and 100 degrees).
By the time we tried to return the boy outfit, it had been put on clearance at BRU and was only worth like $5 (of course I had lost the receipt). So instead I kept it and gave it away as a baby shower gift.

I was in a panic one night that I had nothing special for LO since all the cute stuff I had was hand me downs. So, in the middle of my sobs DH calmed me down by saying we would go pick something special the next day. And wouldn't ya know my water broke not long after we bought a couple of things! (I had to have options because of the weather. lol)

We had coming home outfits for both of our girls. I was a freak and made sure that both of their outfits were equivalent... So they both wore brown pants and polka dot shirts (LJ was blue, Jack Jack was pink). They both had similar cupcake sweatshirts.
I didn't want one to feel like the other had a better coming home outfit!

We just picked a couple from the shower gifts, a bigger and a smaller one. It was a fleece dinosaur sleeper and he was swimming in it of course, and it was way too warm for the weather we had that day- he was all sweaty by the time we got home. I was neurotic about making sure he was warm enough and made him too warm!

I was positive DS would be born on Easter even though my due date was 9 days before. Either way he needed a "Baby's First Easter" outfit, so we bought a NB and a 0-3 mo Carter's one. He was born on Easter and ended up wearing the NB outfit coming home. The 0-3 mo one was white with blue bunnies so it didn't scream Easter and he wore it later.

@anbanan15: My LO was due on Easter and he came earlier like I thought.

I registered for this: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=77291&vid=1&pid=567216&scid=567216012 from gap in blue and was gifted it at my shower. It is 0-3 months, so if we have a tiny baby, I'll just go with one of the newborn outfits we were gifted instead.

I did have a special outfit for both my girls when they left the hospital!

I thought I'd have a bigger baby, so the Restoration Hardware yoga pants and kimono shirt didn't fit, so he came home in a Carters newborn footie pajama, blue with monkeys. Not my favorite, but oh well, what can you do!

I bought a little outfit from carters that is cotton pants with feet, a onesie, and a little snap up cardigan. I also got a matching hat and found a matching blanket at TJ Maxx that I bought to go with it. Initially, I bought the outfit online in newborn size, but then saw the same one on sale at BRU and bought it in the 3 month size just in case.

yes we bought a coming home outfit. It's a little button down shirt, a onesie, and a little pair of pants. It's super cute. It's brown with lime green from what I remember.

I started packing our hospital bag this weekend. We didn't get a specific "coming home" outfit, so I threw in a few things that are cute and could work, depending on LO's size and the weather in early April. I packed a NB sized short-sleeved onesie, a small 0-3 month long-sleeved kimono onesie, a NB kimono shirt, and the smallest pair of pants that we have. Between all of that, I'm sure something will fit. I also threw in a cotton hat, a pair of socks, a set of knit booties, and an Aden & Anais swaddle blanket. It sounds like overkill, but baby clothes are so small that all of that only takes up a tiny corner of my bag...

we're on team green, so we bought a girl outfit:
http://www.target.com/p/JUST-ONE-YOU-Made-by-Carters-Infant-Girls-3-Piece-Cardigan-Set-Green-Navy/-/A-13820642#?lnk=sc_qi_detailbutton
and a boy outfit hoodie to put with a onsie & jeans:

but I think we're going to return them both & use a really sweet little onsie that we were gifted that has a bee on the butt & on both feet & then if it's cold I have a little bear thing that we can put over it:
