    Got some flags on this last night, so thought I'd weigh in.

    I think it's worthwhile to distinguish between people's personal opinion or preference (what they would personally prefer) and their position on same sex marriage (what they want the law of the land to be).

    I totally support people's right to have and express their own personal preference on this or any subject... as someone said, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. I may or may not agree with them, but I will respect your right to an opinion.

    I also support people's right to have and express their own position on same sex marriage... but if your position results in civil rights being withheld from a group of people, then it's not just your personal opinion any more. Other people are greatly affected (both directly and indirectly), and they will be eager to have a debate.

    I have no problem with that debate happening here... please just keep two things in mind:

    1) Everyone is entitled to their own personal opinions and preferences (on both sides of the issue).
    2) If you want to debate someone on their position of same sex marriage as a matter of law, then please keep things respectful and focused on the subject. Please, no personal attacks!

    Thanks guys...

    @mrbee: great points Mr. Bee.

    I felt like yesterday was a day filled with love on fb, not drama in the slightest. Every time I looked at my feed, it made me happy.

    Like Mr. Bee said, I totally believe in everyone's right to have and share their opinion. But I do also agree that opposing same sex marriage is absolutely opposing an equal right and is therefore against equality. I don't think it can possibly be compared to abortion and should not be here. It's not just semantics.

    Re: family values - justice Kagan asked one of the attorneys whether it would be constitutional to deny marriage to a couple over age 55 because they can't procreate. The answer of course, was no.

    My two favorite memes from yesterday were the Kim Kardashian-legal v. Neil Patrick Harris (together for 8 years raising 2 kids) illegal. And the batman one. Does anyone have them to post? I'm not at a computer.

    I went back and forth about changing my pic on fb. In the end I chickened out - b/c I didn't want to spark up a debate. I have friends who are way on the other side of this issue and are too vocal on fb.

    @mediagirl: OMG, I love dog one! I was too lazy to change mine yesterday, I'm totally changing it to that now.

    @septemberlove: I know this probably isn't going to change your mind, but to the people who believe in this initiative, equality is not a loaded word, it's the honest truth. I truly believe that those who are banned from marrying the person they love just because they're the same gender, do not have equal rights to someone who can marry the person they love.

    And I would also love to hear an explanation how banning gay marriage in any way helps to "protect" marriage. I honestly don't understand how gay marriage is perceived as a threat. And I don't know why marriage supposedly has to be "protected".

    I certainly didn't mean to spark any debate! My point was that Someone who was posting a picture in reaction to the campaign was not pro-equality. Equality and the Human Right Campaign are two groups spearheading this campaign. Does that make sense?

    I too would be interested in how a loving same sex family threatens a heterosexual couple's marriage. So far Cooper's supreme court arguments have been pretty thin!
