Just curious! Did you ever work somewhere where, after you quit, you refused to go back? Why?
My husband worked at Mcdonald's for a year in college and he still loves Big Macs and chocolate sundaes to this day! I worked at Olive Garden for just 3 months in college and wouldn't eat there for like 3 years afterward. But I worked at Outback in HS and loved going back to eat there, haha.

I worked at Abercrombie and I refuse to set foot in that store. Upper management was terrible, hiring practices were totally discriminatory, the music is too loud and the cologne makes me gag. And of course, now, it is waaaaay too young for me. At the time, I liked the clothes. I even became a manager.

I haven't, but I did have clients that were a pain that I said I would never patronize. But that had nothing to do with quitting or anything- I just hated working with them so much I couldn't bring myself to be one of their customers!!!! One is a Texas only chain so luckily I don't have to worry about that

@Anagram: @travellingbee: haha, curious about why the refusal to eat Olive Garden? Is something sketchy going on behind the scenes?
I worked at a shoneys in high school. I would never eat there before, then or after!

@travellingbee: for my particular Olive Garden, it wasn't that their food practices were unclean or anything....it was just that the management was so, so awful it soured me on the whole place.

@yellowbird: I'll ask him but I think he finds the food nasty. (shrugs) ETA: not unsanitary, just non tasty to him. He probably just had a bad experience and association.

@yellowbird: My local management was beyond terrible, but on top of that the corporate rules were insane...like the rules about breadsticks and salads---even if a table was like, "we're starving! We want tons of breadsticks, stat!" the OG rule is to bring one breadstick per person + 1. So a table of 4 gets 5 breadsticks...and our manager would actually enforce that and you'd get in trouble if you brought more. So even if they wanted MORE breadsticks ASAP, you had to drop the first 5 breadsticks and wait for them to request more....
There were a million rules like that and I've heard some OGs don't really enforce the rules but ours did, and it just made it difficult because you were constantly running back and forth to retrieve things that it would take longer to take people's orders, so they would get mad, and it would snowball.
Like dude...let me use my judgment. If the table flat out tells you, "we eat tons of breadsticks", let me just bring them 10 breadsticks to keep them busy for longer than 3 minutes. But we would get a mark on our "record" if we did that. (eye roll). Totally dumb.
Same with the salads, same with soups. Same with side sauces--if they said "we want a huge vat of marinara to go with our breadsticks", we were only allowed to bring 1 ramekin at a time, then wait for them to finish the ramekin in 30 second, then run back to get a second rameking, and so on.

@Anagram: I know a couple people who refuse to shop at Walmart after working there. I've heard enough horror stories that i myself don't shop there.
I worked at harris teeter in high school and love that place to this day. also fivebelow!

@andthewildones: My MIL worked at Walmart for 10 years in the bakery department. She was a SAHM her whole life and she did that after they moved to the US so she could draw SS after 10 years and retire.
I don't think she "liked it", but she still shops at Walmart more than any other place! I think it was hard for her because everyone in the bakery at her store spoke Spanish and limited English, and my MIl speaks a different language and limited English.
I imagine it was very isolating for 10 whole years. =/

@Anagram: most of the stories involve sexual assault and are from people working at the front end.
I'm sure it was hard on her! the women of her generation were willing to tolerate more than mine can it would seem. good for her thinking for the future and sticking to it.

Umm well I didn't go back into that specific best buy for awhile. Didn't love the coworkers. But I've worked best buy, american eagle, toys r us, lowes, disney store. They were all fine!

I worked at a Cracker Barrel once. I only lasted two weeks, and I refuse to go in there now. I also worked at a BBQ restaurant for a couple years and loved it...except for always smelling like smoked pork!

I worked at an independent restaurant by the waterfront in a tourist town I worked in and I never even ate there when I worked there! It was filthy and unsanitary, it had rats, and was crazy overpriced for the worst food ever. And the owner was a sleeze. And he would park his car a few blocks away and watch us work out on the patio for hours every afternoon. So creepy. But I did work at a lot of other restaurants, and I would eat at any of them!

Not really. I worked at Gap and a few restaurants. I don't go to Gap much because it feels expensive compared to Old Navy these days. Old Navy's quality has stepped up, so Gap's a rarity.

I also worked at loft for awhile and have to say their customer service is spot-on - so I still shop there too!

Not me, but my sister worked at Romanos Macaroni Grill and would never eat there. She said it was so gross. She definitely never wanted us to come eat and visit her.

I worked at a Sears one summer in college. It was ok but customers acted like slobs in the dressing rooms which I'm sure could be said of most stores. We had to stand all shift and if they caught us leaning against the counter we'd get a call from security telling us to stop. Gee thx

I worked at Banana Republic and Starbucks. I've lost my taste for BR which is the only reason I don't go there anymore, but I go to Starbucks way MORE now after I worked there! It's nice knowing all the tricks.

Until I had my son I worked at People Magazine and the thought of opening any kind of gossip mag (even still) makes me want to gag. I just got so sick of staring at it all day long. And it's a bummer because reading a gossip mag on vacation or even on my commute to work used to be a fave pastime
