Did people buy you housewarming gifts when you bought your home?
My ILs got us a tractor lawn mower bc we have 3/4 acres, so a lot of grass! My brothers gave us money to buy a fridge (Samsung French Door, oh yeah!) and new TV (Samsung 42" 3D) and my mom gave us money for a new living room set (yet to be purchased)!
We are very blessed to have great family!

We got a bamboo plant from some friends. It died last year.

Nothing big. A picture frame, a welcome mat. My parents helped a lot with the house- paid for it to be painted. I felt like we did everything pretty fast- engagement party, shower, wedding, baby shower, buy a new house. I didn't want to have a housewarming party because I didn't want people to have to give us even more gifts.

We got a rosebush, a wind-chime, and salt/pepper grinders. Plus my friends and family deep cleaned my fridge in addition to helping us move. It was so nice, and totally unexpected.

@regberadaisy: Wow! You got some amazing stuff! My mom bought me a fridge, and my husband's mother bought us some kitchen stuff. That's about it!

@artbee: we didn't have a housewarming party either and actually insisted many many times no gifts.
But we might do a housewarming/thank you party after all the renovations are done. To thank everyone that helped us with renovations!

Haha oh my, nothing that generous! That's awesome! We got a couple of gift cards to Lowe's, some decor for the house, things like that

IL's gave a gift card to buy a grill. My sister gave us some lanterns for the deck. My parent's are making us this so we have for parties:

We got a few little things here and there - but my favorite "gift" was from our realtor (who's also my cousin). We weren't moving in right away because we had a lot of cleaning/painting to do - and our first night of home ownership he brought us over a giant pizza, a stack of paper plates + napkins, SOLO cups and a bottle of Makers Mark (DH's favorite!). Over the next few weeks, while we were trying to get everything done, those items (minus the pizza, of course) were complete lifesavers! I actually gave someone pretty paper plates and napkins as a "housewarming" gift last week because it helped us out so much.

We had JUST gotten married, like less than a month prior, so I guess the move excitement kind of got brushed aside

My parents really helped us get the house cleaned up, and ready to live in. I think for like a week straight they all practically lived at the house with us getting it ready. We bought the house just like 2 months before getting married so we had quite a few wedding gifts for our house though (a lot of lowes gift cards) and that helped us remodel both of our bathrooms!
