I was more "smacked." That happened for a while any time I sassed my mom. My mom would also pinch the back of my arm when I was little and acting up in public. Also, my mom smacked me with a fly swatter which I now find so gross and my sister and I laugh about it all the time with my mom. I will just say that the fear of being reprimanded for embarassing my mom in public was really what kept me in line.

Yup. I got my mouth washed out with soap for swearing, too.

Yes. LOTS AND LOTS.
My dad had me go out and cut my own switches off the maple tree in the back yard.
i also got soap in my mouth, pulled by my hair, my bedroom door taken off, all of my belongings put in garbage bags, put on restriction, grounded for weeks.... HAHA! I can only look back on those days and laugh!

A handful of times, but it was more like a swat on the rear end. I do remember getting soap in my mouth for repeating a swear I had heard a neighborhood boy say.
I definitely do *not* plan on spanking; I don't find it effective in the least.

Oooh, the soap in the mouth! My mom got wise to us being able to manage a bar of soap without being too sudsy and gross, so she switch to a dab of liquid Dawn. Baaahh! Looked like we had rabies, LOL.

Yes. I remember why it happened on two occasions. I don't remember why for any others. It was never threatened. It was just done. I was slapped, too, which was far more offensive than any spanking. My father never disciplined me out of anger, but my mom did.
I don't intend to spank my LO . . . I have learned at this point to never say never, BUT, I am hoping I can put this into the never category when her childhood is all said and done.

Yep. It worked pretty well with my brother and me. When we got to a certain age, we could choose between spanking and grounding... and then when we got to the age where we ALWAYS chose to be spanked (didn't wanna miss out hanging out with our friends!)..... my parents stopped spanking and grounding was the only option.

Yes, I got spanked. Lots. My parents realized it wasn't effective with me, but I think they were at a lost as to what they should do with such a stubborn, strong-willed child. Funnily enough, I don't have many memories about being spanked, but it's part of family legend.

All the time! They only used their hands, though, nothing like a belt or switch. And every time I would put my hands up to cover my butt, so the were actually slapping my palms. It stung for a minute (they didn't hit that hard), but mostly it wasn't the spanking that upset me - it was the yelling. They tried the same thing on my brother, but he only ever laughed at them when they'd spank him (he might be a little crazy).

I was spanked but only a few times from what I can remember. This was the topic of discussion for DH and I. DH was on board for spanking because he felt it kept him in line as a kid. I was against it. After LO was born he changed his mind completely.
