I grew up in a Christian (protestant) household and my family went to church every Sunday. My parents were really involved in church too. Other than bringing us to church and celebrating Christian holidays, they never really mentioned religion to us... my brother and I chose religion on our own just by being exposed to it and my parents living by example.

We will raise our kids in a church-- right now Christian Evangelical.

Like most people here, (ireland) both DH and I grew up in loosely catholic houses - parents went to church but didn't force us to, once we hit teen years. We also went to catholic schools, but over 90% of schools here are catholic run - a legacy from the foundation of the state. If there were non denominational schools within a reasonable driving distance, we would send our children to those. He's definitely an atheist, I'm not sure but i know I'm not a full believing christian. That said, when boiled down to the basics - forgiveness, compassion, charity - christianity isn't so bad and our kids will have the sacraments etc. Most catholic schools here are fairly light on the indoctrination, it's not a huge part of the curriculum.

I'm agnostic, but I grew up in what I like to call a religiously confusing household. We were Jehovah's Witnesses as young children--I can remember going door to door. But then my mom was disfellowshipped and we took a short break from religion. Then we began attending a Baptist church. It didn't make sense to me to go from one to the next and the only thing I liked about church was the music.

Mr. Jazz is an atheist, but his family is Pentecostal. His mom and dad aren't religious anymore, but they grew up in that church and his grandmom is an avid church goer.

We want to teach our children about religion, though we are both anti-organized religion. We have weird conversations--Mr. Jazz wants to baptize or send our kids to church although he is an atheist. I'm fine with our daughter going to church with my mom or her great grandparents--but not regularly. And I've been dabbling with Buddhism and have dreams of sitting and meditating with my children.

Hubby and I are reform Jews. We both went to Sunday and Hebrew school. We had bar mitzvahs and got confirmed. But we were pretty relaxed. We didn't go to temple every Friday night. We'll raise lo the same way.

I grew up going to a Presbyterian church, but stopped going once I started playing softball tournaments every weekend. I never liked going to church as a kid. When I moved to California in my 20s, I started going to church again (Presbyterian). I loved it. I stopped going when I started working weekends, and haven't been since we moved to the South.

DH and I grew up in the church and still practice our faith and definitely will be raising our LO in the church.

My husband and I are both atheists. We will not raise our kids with any specific religion, though I think we will end up taking our kids to church for holidays that we spend with my in-laws. They are Methodist and still regularly attend church. I grew up Catholic, but stopped going regularly after being confirmed. My parents don't attend Catholic church, but my mom teaches at a Methodist pre-school so she goes to church every day, she says.

I was raised Jewish and we went to a conservative temple but are more aligned with the reform movement in terms of what each sect actually aligns itself with.

DH is Christian, and he grew up attending a Methodist church at first (his dad's side) and then went to the Baptist church (his mom's side) later on.

We plan on raising our kids with both, and hope they find something that spiritually attach to, whatever that may be (Jewish/Christian/or something else)

I grew up in a Christian household. If anyone knows who Kenneth Copeland is, that's who we listened to a lot. My husban grew up Catholic, but by the time we met he wasn't practicing anymore and had started going to a non denominational church. It's important to us that our children are raised in a Christian household.

My mom was raised reform Jewish, and my dad was raised Catholic, but neither of them still practice -- so they raised me and my sister w/out any real religion. We celebrated Christmas, Hannukah, Easter, and Passover, but that was about it. DH is agnostic. Personally, I identify much more strongly w/ the Jewish faith, but I never had a bat mizvah, and we only attended temple briefly when I begged my parents to join one when I was growing up. DH and I have decided that we will educate our kids on religion in general and that they can choose whether they want to follow one religion in particular. I'm secretly hoping that our kids pick Judaism...

I grew up Catholic and even went to a Catholic school. My parents werent hard core pressing of it. Like AUNT POL said... Faily "loose Catholic" home.

I was raised, and still am, a liberal Christian. My stepfather is a minister, but once I was high school aged, my parents left it up to me to decide if I wanted to practice my faith or not. We definitely weren't the type of household you would expect from the family of a pastor. I plan to raise my children in the Christian faith, particularly because of the values they will learn, but I hope to teach them to be free-thinking and encourage them to question their faith and make their own decisions about what to believe.

My father was raised very very catholic, my great uncle was a bishop, my cousin is a nun, & my father went to the seminary before leaving to go to college & later marrying my mother. My mom was raised Lutheran. I was baptized catholic & we went to church on & off while I was young. I knew when I was a teenager that I wanted to raise my children going to church so after going sporadically in college I started to go frequently with DH & joined RCIA with him. We are now very involved in our church & DD was baptized there at 5 weeks. I really love going. DH wasn't raised going to church, his family was Christian & his dad had grown up Catholic but DH was never baptized as a baby/child.

Yes! My parents are both very involved in their church, and I grew up in Sunday school, youth group and Bible study.
Now, I'm married to a youth pastor...so our LOs will definitely be raised in a Christian home. It means too much to us not to share with kids.

@mediagirl: there are 3 main types of Jews. Reform, conservative, and orthodox. Orthodox are very strict, they follow all the rules very closely. Reform are pretty relaxed. They are the Jews you will see eating bacon and only go to temple for the holidays (I'm stereotyping , I actually love going to temple and won't eat pig). Conservative Jews are somewhere in the middle.

Yes. My parents are VERY involved at a Catholic church. Husb and I continue to go ALMOST every Sunday and I would like to raise my kids around it as well.
