I didn't grow up near any relatives! My parents have 20 siblings combined but all of them live in New York, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong and Australia.
I'm happy my LO will have extended family nearby!

Yes, my uncle, his wife and their three children lived about 2 miles away. I spent most weekends at their house when I was little.

Yep! We get together frequently still. My mom has 5 siblings and my dad has 3, and most of them live close. And actually on my mom's side we still do Christmas with my grandma and all her siblings and all their kids. You would never know that we are second/third cousins, we are close like first! I love it.

Yes - both my dad and mom's side live in our city, besides for a few cousins a few hours away. Big family gatherings are the norm for me - but not DH, who grew up with his extended family across the country.

No, which is probably why I don't understand some family obligations just because you are kin.

I lived within walking distance of my entire extended family up until about 10 years ago, now they are 25-30 minutes away.
DH's entire family is 10-15 min away.

My extended family lives about 2 hours away so we'd see them for holidays and summer visits. I'm happy E's cousins are close by!

Not really
My extended family always lived in another state, although my grandparents did move to the same city as us when I was 12 or so. It's one reason I am SO happy LO will have extended family within a couple hours driving!!

My family was/is pretty small. On my mom's side she was the only one to get married and have kids. So I had 2 uncles and an aunt, but no cousins on that side. I also live with my maternal grandfather.
On my dad's side he had one brother who was married and had 3 kids, but they lived 600km away so I didn't see them often.

I grew up in California and both of my parents are from the East coast. All of their families live there still. I always wanted to know my extended family more. I am so happy my husband's family lives 1-2 hours away because it means my children will get that chance!

My parents and I moved when I was 9 away from all the family. So yes and no haha.

Nope. My Dad's job took us to MD which was quite far from all my relatives were in Ohio.
We saw them twice a year, though.

Nope, my dad was military, so we moved every 3 years. My grandpa was military too so everyone ended up everywhere.

I lived on the opposite coast from my extended family. We make a point to stay in touch via phone, email, and skype, but it would be wonderful to be closer.
LO will have both sets of grandparents in the same city - all her aunts, as well. We're looking to move about 40 minutes away by the end of the year to be closer to DH's job. We're eventually planning to purchase a home out of state, but that might be a few years down the road. I'm going to try to bribe my folks into joining us.

Not at all. They all live across the country. Kinda bums me out since I honestly like them but don't see them as often as I'd like.

Yes, I grew up with all of my grandparents and most of my aunts, uncles, and cousins either in the same town or just a few hours away. It was wonderful. I'm pregnant now, and we live far away from most family--I've found myself really wanting to move back home because I want my kids to grow up around family too.

I grew up within walking distance to both sets of grandparents and all of my cousins on my moms side. We are all super close and it actually makes me sad that my LOs will not have family that close. We are about 1.5 hours away from everyone now.
