Yes. I started working for my parents company when I was 14 (I answered phones). I worked every Sunday and after school. I got a job as a hostess when I was 16 and worked there until I had my son at 17, the. I SAH after that while

No. I wasn't allowed to. I had to help with my parent's restaurant year round. I got in trouble for being part of the key club and volunteering around the community. My mom told me that I should dedicate my time to the restaurant instead.

I had two regular babysitting jobs per week. Senior year I worked for a tutoring company about 8 hours a week.

Yes! I actually loved working. I worked in a local pharmacy with my friends 2 or 3 shifts a week after school & on weekends. I also worked there my first summer home from college. Then I also was a hostess at a French restaurant 1 night a week, and sometimes did catering gigs with them.

One summer I worked in a Walmart while we were at our summer home! It was fun actually.

My sister on the other hand never worked really, just some babysitting.

I definitely want my boys to work in high school even if it's just once a week.

Yes. When I was 16, worked before and after school! I won't allow my kids to work more than 20 hours though. There were a few weeks I worked 50 hours (3 hours before school, 6 hours after school and then a few shifts on the weekend) and my school work fell behind.

Before 16, I only baby sat once a month.

Yes, year round. I opted to do independent studies starting my sophomore year, and having a job and continuing with my music were the conditions. I worked at a local clothing boutique, then snagged a receptionist position at a hair salon. Both were a ton of fun. I want my children to work at least part-time, in high school. I think it's greatly beneficial.

No but I swam 24+ hours a week, did life guard training on top of that, did a sport a season, violin lessons 3 hours a week, marching band......

I worked full time from the time I was 17, but I wasn't in high school when I did that.

Yes as soon as I could get job around 14-15. Part time during the school year and full time in the summer. Same thing through my undergrad.

I had summer jobs starting at 14 and worked year round from about 16. I also played sports in the spring and fall.

I didn't necessarily have a job but I was expected to care for my younger sisters. My mother was largely absent or incapacitated during high school so I did shopping, drop offs, pick up, baths, getting ready for school, lunches, homework help, birthdays, etc.. So even though I didn't have a job where I got paid, I had a job. DH has had a job since he was 16, in addition to chores, etc.. My MIL is definitely my role model for motherhood.

During the summers once I turned 15, working for family business. Year round starting senior year (16) and all throughout college.

Eta, I also had extracurriculars, AP classes, and worked in the school cafeteria for free lunch (no free lunch program, not income based, private school.) Makes me feel like such a slacker now tbh!

The summers before and after my senior year, I helped out at the law office where my mom works. I also worked there a few days a week after school during my spring semester of senior year because I decided not to run track (every other year, I played sports year-round so always had practice or games in the afternoon). My family didn't have a lot of money, but my parents didn't want me to overextend myself, plus they live in the middle of nowhere. So until I got my license, it would have been an extra burden on them to shuttle me back and forth, and would have really limited my availability. Jobs are so hard to find in that area, it really wasn't worth the hassle of trying...the job I eventually got kind of fell in my lap because the lawyer my mom works for was short-handed but didn't want to hire another full-time employee yet, so it just worked out.

Babysitting and Sonic Drive-In.

During the school year, we were only allowed to work weekends. During the summer, we were encouraged to work as much as we could!

Yes. My parents didn't have much money so the only way I would have money to spend was by working. I got my first job at 14. During one point in high school, I had 3 jobs! My grades were good, too. GPA at graduation was 3.2. (Not amazing but not having a job wouldn't have made them better. I would have filled my time doing stupid stuff.) If my grades were much worse, I would definitely reduce my my work hours.

The summer after I turned 15 I worked as a lifeguard at a waterpark. I only did it for 2 weeks and then quit. That job scared the crap out of me. In what universe is a 15 year old kid responsible enough for potentially saving lives?!
BUT, when my parents found out I quit (without notice), they were mad and made me find another job. I worked as a clerk in a State Farm office for almost 2 years after school and on Saturdays. I actually loved it and they asked me to work there as a receptionist one summer when I was home from college. I also worked at a Kindercare for a semester/summer before going to college.
My parents stopped giving me an allowance once I got a job, so I had to work for spending money (for clothes, lunches, movies, etc).

ETA: my parents wanted me to work but had conditions: no places where I was a cashier and no work in the evenings.

It's crazy to think back on high school, I was SO busy, but my mom said that was me at my best. I did field hockey, indoor track and lacrosse, and was in jazz and ballet classes. I volunteered for a charity group at least 2 hours a week, did school and homework and still had my two jobs! I'm impressed with young me. Haha. I need that energy now with 2 boys.

No, I wasn't allowed to. My parents insisted I focus on school and extra curriculars/volunteering. During the summers I did summer school and helped my parents with data entry (which I guess was kind of a job!).
