What kind of proposal did you have?
Mine was just us two, quiet, simple, in a public place but with nobody around. Just the way I wanted it. Although, I did warn him that if he jumbotron-ed me, I'd leave him on the spot and turn the whole situation into a viral Youtube video. :S

My DH took me to the place where we first met, the state capitol building, and proposed there with a few people around and his parents were in the balcony taking pictures. We got a round of applause from the state troopers, lol. Our engagement/day we met anniversary was yesterday!

Haha, i totally know what you mean. I do not like public proposals. He surprised me by flying out and waiting for me in my apartment.

He took me to the place where we had our first date (a bar!) and proposed on the back patio, that has twinkle lights and a beautiful view of the city. He actually got on one knee (even though he's not American, and that's totally foreign to his culture) and did it! sweetest ever. There were a few people out there, but not many.
Then, he told me he'd rented a limo (we'd driven to the bar in his car, like always--sneaky boy!), and he whisked me off to a 5-star restaurant I'd been dying to try for a long time. And it was a fabulous, fabulous meal. Then my friends met back up with us at the original bar for drinks.
I would not have wanted a public proposal. I get embarrassed easily.
But to me, that proposal was perfect: intimate, but grand!

He took me to Longwood Gardens on the Fourth of July and asked on a trail in the woods. And then asked me again like a dozen more times at different locations around the Gardens, lol. Later we went to the National Mall and watched the fireworks show.

Mine was in-between! We took a trip to Paris (somewhat "lavish") and he proposed under the Eiffel Tower at night, just as it started lighting up! It was just the 2 of us, but it seemed like the most spectacular, perfect moment... I was completely shocked!

He surprised me while I was living in Barcelona. He took me to my favorite spot in the city and proposed. It was just the two of us, but it was pretty lavish.

I would say it was lavish because of how much effort went into it. He proposed to me at Sunset in Santorini, Greece.

I went on a scavenger hunt that led to my proposal. At each place I stopped one of my family members was waiting dr me with a clue. My best friend was waiting at one stop. My DH's best friend was riding with me during the scavenger hunt and he recorded the entire thing. My clues led me to my mom's house where my DH was waiting. When he proposed it was just the two of us and the camera man. My family and friend were waiting out of sight and listening. After I said yes they came out of hiding and we had a celebration!
I think it was fun that he planned something elaborate for the proposal and got my family and friend involved. But I'm glad it was just the two of us when he asked me. I'm also happy we have the video. And that it isn't on YouTube!

It was simple at a winery in N GA mountains. Other people were around but DH got one to take pictures. I was totally surprised so it was perfect!!

Mine was lavish but intimate. It was really sweet how much effort and thought he put into it. He did a whole mission impossible style treasure hunt. There were various clues through out the day. We ended up in Santa Monica at a beautiful hotel over looking the ocean. He then took me on a gondola ride where my last clue was and it was a beautiful love note and when I finished reading it he proposed on the gondola! He even arranged ahead of time with the hotel and gondola people to have my "clues" waiting for me. It was a pretty lavish plan he concocted.

Ours was intimate but extravagant - he proposed and then immediately said we had to pack. He had planned a long weekend in Napa and we had to be at the airport in 2 hours! It was incredibly romantic but did I mention he woke me up and proposed at 3:30am?! I was nothing if not surprised.

Mine was similar! Quiet and simple. We were also in a public place (park) but there was no one around.

It was not "lavish", but it was definitely public. He had the Santa at the mall in on it, made me think I was helping his niece go up for a picture with Santa buuut he proposed instead. So there were a ton of people there including both of our families

I would say lavish, we were in Mexico and had just taken a boat ride to another part of Puerto Vallarta to see a show and have dinner. He waited until I went to the bathroom, when I came back a woman came up to our table and told me, "Miss you dropped this in the bathroom" and it was my ring! I waved her away and said no, I didn't drop that, that's not mine!
Everyone clapped and congratulated us. On the boat ride back to our hotel everyone was talking to us about it.

@bebefly: us too. We were lazing around in bed one Sunday morning and he snuck the ring out and surprised me. Super simple and private, perfect for us. We didn't even call out families for a few hours.

We ordered the ring online together, and checked the tracking details everyday for 3 (!!!) weeks together. When the ring finally arrived, he facetimed me while I was at uni to show it to me.
After work that night I got home and was all "where is it?! I wanna seeeeee" and he was all "where is what?"
Later that night, just before he was about to drive me home (after I had been dyyyying for hours wanting to see it) he was all "so, I have a quiz. if you pass, you might get to see the ring". So I was like okay... and he whispered (because his flatmate was asleep just across the hall) "will you marry me?"
My reply was "hmmmm... let me see the shiny... hmmm... yeah okay. I guess"
It was hilarious, and totally us.
I wore the ring around for over a week without anyone noticing, before we decided to update our facebook relationship

Simple. We had just gone to dinner and decided to grab a drink at a beachside shack. I was still hungry so I got a hotdog too. We talked for a while and I started whining about how I wanted to go because I had to pee, but he wouldn't let me and I was so annoyed. A little later we got up to finish the walk and he proposed and it was really sweet

It was in front of his ENTIRE family. I wouldn't say "lavish" but it was well-planned and thoughtful. Very special!
And I bawled like a baby. I kinda wish it'd just been the two of us, it was awkward with everyone staring at us. I really just wanted to kiss him like crazy (and then some) but I had to restrain myself lol.

My husband owns a bar so every year on new years eve we have a party at the bar and usually do the countdown and lead the toast on the karaoke stage, so when he proposed he did it on the stage when the clock struck midnight. It was a complete surprise and all of our closest friends were there (and a bunch of strangers). I was shaking and crying, I was caught by total surprise and our friends were taking pictures and video. It was awesome.
I love how he proposed, but it would have been just as great if it had been just the two of us, then he would have been able to give more of a "speech" you know??

Simple and quiet. Just me, him and our dog. We went for a walk at my favorite place in the city, overlooking downtown at sunset, we sat on a bench to watch the sun go down, and he asked me. Then we went home, cuddled, ordered in dinner and enjoyed our secret for the night.

He took me back to the place we went on our first date for lunch, and then took me to a park that we went to early on in dating, and proposed on the bleachers there. He had a barbecue planned with our families waiting back at his apartment. It was very sweet.
I think my (now) favorite part of the whole day was waking my Oma up from her nap to tell her...and she looked unhappy/angry at the news! Later on, she realized her reaction wasn't the right one, but to be fair, we did wake her up.
