I really did. I LOVED our hospital and the nurses who took care of us. They were not pushy at all and respected all my wishes. My nurse came in often but not annoyingly so to check up on me and make sure I was OK.
The only negative about my experience was the head LC whom I hate with the fiery passion of ten thousand suns.
I plan to deliver at my hospital again for #2!

@looch: haha even our food was pretty decent, considering. I was allowed to order so much food DH just ate at the hospital with me. Of course along with my PP meal requests.

L&D - No
Postpartum - YES. The only hitch was that an LC wasn't on duty one day 1, but they let us stay until an LC was on duty to help us establish breastfeeding. My postpartum nurses were fabulous. So kind and attentive. The nursery nurses were angels on earth. I was crying because I was so overwhelmed, and one of them climbed up in my bed and just sat with me, helping me get C to nurse.

I loved it. I have such positive feelings about the whole thing and have recommended it to a few people. I was just telling DH how glad I was that the LC showed me how to do side lying nursing while we were there.

Hells no. Worse experience of my life. But that was the specific hospital and staff I encountered, thankfully I know they aren't all that bad!!!

For the most part yes. Hated the Dr who delivered dd#1 but loved the dr who delivered dd#2. Loved all the nurses both tes around except one pushy IBLC nurse who pretty much ordered me to do skin to skin with dd#2.

Yes! No complaints except for one LC who was a dud. I work at the hospital that I delivered at and they took very good care of me

Um....medium.
Birth didn't go as I'd hoped (induced at 42 weeks, hoping for unmedicated, ended up with csection), but that's not their fault. Most of the care I received was kind and compassionate, save for the attending OB who was a real jerk...I could have done without him.

I was surprised how great the experience was. The nurses (both labor/delivery & recovery) were all very attentive and nice and my OB was absolutely amazing...yes, the food kinda blew chunks and at the last minute I ended up having to stay an extra night because of bp issues, but, other than that, it was a very positive experience. I actually tell people the birth itself was the easiest part of the whole having a kid experience.

I had a good experience too except for one pushy nurse that was asian (like me) that basically made snarky comments about how we were taking care of LO. Aka how we were holding him and how we were changing his diaper... It was so weird!

I really loved my hospital birth experience & am so sad that I won't be able to deliver again at my hospital. We moved a few states over & I'm looking for new doctors

Absolutely! I wouldn't have changed a thing. We received fabulous care in wonderful facilities. They followed my lead. I never felt like I was on the clock - they let me wait to push until my parents could get there. The nurse smuggled us extra supplies to take home. If/when we have a second, I'll definitely want to go back.

Yep, the only downside was my orig ob coming in and telling me he was going to csection if I didn't progress to 10 cm (I was at 9cm) within an hour! (thankfully he was stuck in scheduled csection, go figure) and his partner delivered DS. His partner is now my OB

I did!! And I was so surprised. My experience, though a hard L&D and immediate PP experience, was 1000x better than I ever could have expected a hospital to deliver. I was originally going to birth at a birth center with a midwife, doula and a water birth. But when I had to be induced for medical issues, I was transferred to the hospital the birth center had a partnership with - and they far exceeded my expectations. Although I hardly saw the doctor that actually delivered the baby - the nurses were amazing. I am so glad I had a good experience because initially I was "scared" of hospitals and this shattered that, thankfully. I am so much more open-minded now.

Very positive! The only things I didn't like were 1) the bed was not comfy and 2) a LC visited us the day DD was born, but I didn't really know what to ask. I had more questions the next day, before we were released, but there was no LC on duty. Otherwise, the experience was everything I'd hoped for, and even the food was pretty good!

Yes, except for 2 things: One was the kind of crappy advice I got to "wait til it hurts more in the front than the back" before coming back to l&d. If I had waited, lo would have been born at home. The other was the lactation consultants. I thought they sucked. Crap advice, didn't even check our latch when I complained of pretty bad pain, and only seemed to want to check me off as another who was bf'ing when I left the hospital. I acknowledge that there was more I could have done had I known better...but then again, one of them taught the not-so-helpful class that I took.

Yes. I had a horrible, traumatic 30 hour active labor (including 8 hours stuck in transition) experience at a (non-hospital) related birthing center with a midwife and her team including a student midwife and doula.
At hour 30, I actually demanded that I be transported to the local hospital where I had a FABULOUS experience even though I didn't know the OB on call and they weren't expecting me. The nurses, both for L&D and postpartum, were a God-send. I honestly don't really have anything bad to say about my experience there except that the hospital food was gross so DH just brought me meals.
Highlights from my midwife experience include the student midwife telling me "women have been doing this for thousands of years!" about 28 hours into labor, the midwife telling me that I couldn't leave for the hospital because I was too far progressed (at 9cm), and the staff leaving me and my husband to walk outside by a busy road while I was barefoot, dripping wet, in a bathrobe that didn't cover me up, dilated to 9cm, and having contractions every 1 min.
Definitely going back to the hospital for baby 2!

I personally think that the Business of Being Born has made many women terrified of hospitals. While I think that the medical community needs to address things like their c-section rates, on the whole I feel that it is really changing for the better.

Yes. Everyone was amazing. Nurses, midwives, OB (who did stitches) and pp nurses. We refer to it by the "hotel" by accident all the time when we talk a out being there! I didn't want to leave.

Labour was a bitch, but I loved the care i received. There was only one nurse i didn't like because she kept trying to make jokes and would keep touching me when i did not want to be touched!! But the doctors, med students and nurses were great.
The private room i had was amazing and it was so nice for DH to be able to share a bed with me and for LO to be right next to us. They even cloth diapered LO! People gave me side eyes for my hospital choice bc it's "in the city" but they have the best NICU in the city so i knew i was in good hands if anything went wrong.

Yes! I had a scheduled c-section, a private room and every aspect of my LO's birth was really positive! Well, I wish they had removed the IV a little sooner but that's the only negative.

Everything was great, except onnnne little thing but it wasn't the fault of the hospital.
My family was visiting non-stop and I didn't get ANY rest. It was my fault because I never had the heart to tell them to leave, and in their defense, they brought me food for every single meal of the day for 3 days straight while I was there:)

Yes, I felt like I had the best of both worlds! They even had a midwife on duty during my labor + delivery, hot tub, everything I needed for an unmedicated birth. I even liked the food, but I'm the weirdo who likes airplane food too!

@jedeve: I agree. I wanted, and got, an unmedicated birth, at no time did I feel the hospital staff getting in the way of that. I loved being cared for and having my baby checked on for 48 hours...wish I could have stayed longer!

My labor/delivery (induction) was good but that was because of my amazing midwife. I was high-risk so the doctors were trying to push interventions on me and my midwife made sure I did what I was comfortable doing. The actual birth was the best bit since lo was out in 2 pushes. The after-care sucked, I was rooming with 2 other women, dh wasn't allowed to stay and hardly ever got checked on/helped even though I was meant to be super closely monitored. I'm hoping to have a similar birth next time and hopefully transfer to the birth center for after-care (have to deliver in hospital).

Glad to hear mostly positive stories! Hospital is the only option for me. I've long since accepted it but still hesitant about it.
