I had my anatomy scan yesterday and my OB's office called afterwards to tell me that some images were not good enough. I have to go back tonight and drink another 32 ounces of water.

Yup, I had to go back for another round because she was moving too much to get good images of one area. They tried everything to get her to move the way they wanted her to, but no dice. I didn't have to drink 32 ounces though! Good luck!

@tinyperson: Ya, the tech adjusted the bed in different angles and made me walk a little but my baby didn't want to cooperate!

Yes, but my OB sucks so much and is so busy that I can't get back in for 3 freaking weeks! I'm so frustrated. I'm going to be 25 weeks by the time my "18-20 week" anatomy scan is finally finished.
grrr

I didn't have to go back, but I was in there for a looong time, having to lie in different positions, cough, etc in order to get a good view. I think it was for this scan that the tech sent me away to go empty my bladder and jump up and down in order to get the baby into a more cooperative position, hehe

With P, yes. She was notoriously uncooperative during ultrasounds. They couldn't get the measurements of her kidneys if I remember correctly. And they couldn't find the sex either, but wouldn't have redone it for that reason. The next time I went I drank an OJ before I went in and they gave me chocolate when I got in the room (a trick I would have to use for every ultrasound and NST...and I had a lot since I went to 42 weeks!).

With both kids, yup. Neither one of them wanted to cooperate and get into the position they needed to see clearly.

@bpcmarj: I am going to try that. My LOs have some leftover Easter candy!

I had to go back with both kids because they found choroid plexus cysts.

When mine was finished the tech said I'd likely have to go back but my OB decided not to. They couldn't get a clear picture of her spine or tell the sex. I didn't care about knowing the sex though.

@autumnlove: My issue was that she was nearly dormant. She just would not move around and no amount of pushing or jumping would help. But, like her mother, she loves chocolate and it is still a great motivator for her! ha.

I had to go to MFM for choroid plexus cysts and to get better shots of her heart.

Had to go to MFM with R to confirm hydrocephalus. They got all the shots they needed though. This time they weren't able to get all the shots of her heart they needed (she was too wiggly!), but they're doing ultrasounds every 4 weeks anyway to monitor the SCH, so I didn't have to go back specifically to finish up. They just got them at the next ultrasound.

I had Cap'n'Crunch for breakfast before my NT scan and the baby wouldn't sit still long enough to get the measurements so we had to go back for another u/s after meeting with the midwife. We had to have a second anatomy scan because they couldn't get a clear image of the heart the first time. I got a little worried about that but everything was fine.

I did have to go back. Totally forgot. They couldn't get a good measurement of her brain (I think). Went back in 4 weeks, my next appointment, and everything was fine.

yes had to go back because he was not facing the right way to get all the images they needed.

I had to go back to get a clear picture of the left side of her heart

Yes, with DD they couldn't get a good picture of her spine, so they had me come back in 4 weeks later for another scan.

Yes with DS they said they needed better pics of his spine and brain, I think. Really freaked me out, but all was good, the Dr said the images just were just not up to her standard. I think I Had to wait 4 or 5 weeks to get in the second time.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
Yep. I had to go back at 24 weeks because DD was so balled up they couldn't see her heart well enough. They kept using the buzzer to try and get her to wake up and stretch, but it just pissed her off. She'd kick me, then ball right back up. Every. Single. Time. (Turns out, it was a sign of things to come...even now at 3.5 months, girlfriend always knows exactly what she wants and always does it her way. )

Yep, I had to go back because they couldn't get all the pictures they wanted of her heart and she would not turn over so that the tech could get the pictures she needed even after walking around, drinking water, etc

Yep! I had to go back with my DS because they couldn't get good enough measurements of the heart because of his position

I had to go back three hours later to get a picture of LO's ankle. Because it was the same day as the rest of the scan they didn't need to re-do the rest of it. I had my regular OB appointment in between the two scans and she said she couldn't care less about the ankle but it was the radiology department policy to have a complete set of pictures.

Yes-the tech discovered my son had SUA (Single Umbilical Artery) at my anatomy scan, so we went to the hospital and had another full anatomy scan with the better equipment and a perinatologist. Luckily everything was fine, but it was nerve-wracking to go through. Hang in there!
nectarine / 2973 posts
I actually had to get three anatomy scans done. They just had trouble getting clear pictures of everything.

With DD I had to go back. Mainly it was for a growth check(they had my due date wrong and were convinced i was having a ginormous child), but they were having trouble getting a good picture of her heart, so they decided to wait till the next scan to try again.
pear / 1657 posts
I did because DS was facing down and wouldn't flip no matter what we tried. They couldn't get the views or measurements the needed of his face and the front side of his body so we went back a week later.
ETA: 3D pic of his face from second scan because I remembered it was on my phone
