We are having an unconventional co-ed welcome baby cocktail party in a few weeks. My friend who is sending out the electronic invites wants to include registry info, at least in the cover email, but I always thought this wasn't done and that registry info was spread word of mouth. What did you do? I live in NYC if that matters. We really don't expect people to bring gifts, but I suppose if they do I'd prefer it be something we need. Thanks!

Even though you are hosting a cocktail hour welcome baby event if the invite says "shower" you are very likely going to receive gifts. All of the shower invites I have received had registry info on it.

every shower invite i've ever received has included the registry info somewhere, whether right on it, on a separate card or in another discreet location.

Nope, the hostesses did not include it on my shower invites. I don't typically include it on invites when I send either. I figure it's another incentive to RSVP.

I think for showers it's expected for registry info to be on there, but not on things like wedding invites

No, our host didn't and I wouldn't if I'd been hosting (FWIW we had the exact same thing--a coed cocktail party in NYC! Although ours was pre-baby). People mostly asked the host when they RSVP'd, and she was happy to tell them.

We didn't have a registry (it's not common around here to set one up) but if we did I would have spread via word of mouth.

our host sent out the invitation with registry info. if i had been sending it out i would not have included it, but since it was coming from someone else i thought it was okay.

I've never received an invite that didn't say where they were registered. Mine says at the bottom: Baby Last Name is registered at Amazon.

My hosts put our registry info on our shower invites. All shower invites I've received in the past had them also.

Thanks, ladies. This is very helpful. Looks like it is the norm to list the registry info. I looked at Emily Post online, and she even thinks its okay to include it in a "separate enclosure". This contradicts the old Emily Post book I have! One tricky thing is that we are not calling it a "shower" but rather a "welcome baby party." Also, we are paying for most of it, although our guests may not know that. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I think it's appropriate on a shower invite, because those are kind of gift centered events, but not on a wedding invitation or similar.

@raintreebee: I think it's entirely appropriate for you to pay for an event that benefits your child especially since your LO will already have arrived. I like the wording Baby Rain is regestered at XXX on the actual invite or a separate card Registries XXX.
