I feel like I keep seeing that the middle seat is the safest for your carseat. Is that what most people do? We are going to install ours this weekend.

We also did middle without LATCH in my SUV, and middle with LATCH in hubby's truck.

We did on the side but that's because my hubby installed it. I might have tried the middle.

We have a two door cobalt. The carseat is on the passenger side because the carseat cannot be touching the front seat and if if were in the middle, it'd be touching the drivers seat or I'd be eating the steering wheel.

What is the Latch? Is that the thing on the car seat base that you hook the metal loop? Haha I'm so technical!
We did middle seat in DHs car and Side Passenger in mine only because it couldn't fit in the middle. Both with the bases (latch?)

Our's goes on the passenger side in both cars. Our ped said that was safest, so that's what we did. Plus we'd be sitting in the steering wheel if it was anywhere else.

@shopaholic: yep, it's the little metal loopy things. At least that's what the car seat installer at BRU told us

Passenger. The firehouse that inspected mine said not to do the middle cause you can't use the latch and they prefer the latc system.

@HabesBabe: @MrsRoo: Did you do it without the LATCH because you don't have it in your cars? Ours doesn't have it, since the car is more than 10 years old. I tried it out with the seat in the middle, and it fit, but I just realized that is with me driving. DH moves the seat way further back, so I don't know if it will fit. (LO won't be here until July).

side, because I am short and wouldn't be able to easily put it in or take it out of the middle seat.

Middle for the first one but now that we have two car seats in the back of my car, it's off to one side Hate it but it's what we have to do for the kids!

Middle for the infant seat. We can use the LATCH in the middle in our car, and it fit best there. The convertible is on the passenger side.

@Foodnerd81: yes, my car has the LATCH things, but not in the center, so it's installed with the seatbelt. I was told its just as safe as using the LATCH

@MrsRoo: if you have latch on the sides then you have lath in the middle!!! You use the latch from the left and the one from the right to create a "middle" latch. Get what I mean? That is the middle latch.
* my car's manual explained it like that but warned only to use one lath at a time (so don't try to connect 2 hooks to the one latch)

I read somewhere (sorry, can't remember where) that behind the driver was the safest, but we have it behind the passenger.

@Kiki: I'm short and am thinking it will be on the side also. Probably driver side.

Since we have twins, ours are installed on the sides in both cars.

@TurtleDoves: haha, good to know! I guess I wasn't paying enough attention in our little class. I wonder why the guy used the seatbelt, maybe he was just showing us all the options....

Middle is the safest if you can get the carseat installed properly in that spot. Seatbelt is just as safe as LATCH. And before you borrow the LATCH from the sides to use in the middle seat check your car's manual to see if it allows it. Some will tell you to not do that.

passenger side with latch. We had ours professionally installed-it's what was recommended to us

the infant seat was in the middle. once we went to the convertible it went on the side(behind passenger seat) because it wouldn't fit in the middle rear facing.

we have had our infant carrier in the middle all 8 months of LO's life but just discovered it was very incorrectly installed because we were using the latches from each outboard seat, if that makes sense. i pretty much felt like the worse mom, ever. at least we weren't in an accident during that period!

It'll have to go on the side in our car because it doesn't fit correctly on the middle seat. I was told passenger side is safer for getting baby in and out of the car, but driver side is safer from an accident perspective? Not sure which side we'll pick.

middle, but he is getting heavy so we might move it to the side soon so it's easier to get him in and out of the car!

@boiledpnut: really? I'd always heard that middle was safest?! passenger side would be a lot easier... I may have to do some more research! Maybe it depends on the car.
We had ours professionally installed and in my car, the seat is in the middle with LATCH. In my DH's car, it only fits behind the passenger seat with LATCH.

Thanks! I might have to think about if it will touch driver side if we put it in the middle. DH is 6'7" so he sits pretty far back. We are gonna go get it checked after, too so I am sure they will correct us if we do it wrong!

@MrsRoo: make sure that both your vehicle owners manual and the carseat manual say that you can "borrow" the outboard latches. Some allow for it, while others do not.

Side. We don't have LATCH in the middle, and we are both short and I drive a CRV so having it in the middle would be really difficult to get the seat in/out.
