@HappyBaker: haha so cool! So what did you do to form the ship?

@regberadaisy: It was so easy! It's just two 13x9 cakes, cut a little narrower so there was a scrap on one long side. Then I used the scraps to make a back piece and front piece, and cut the front to look like a triangle.

@lamariniere: I got the idea off Pinterest! It's a two layered chocolate cake- Here's the link to the cake and recipe.

It turned out great and everyone ate it up in a heartbeat! I added the crushed graham cracker to make it pop and I think I had way more Oreos than what the recipe called for. This cakes great because if you mess up it doesn't matter!! And obviously this ones for a boy but if your lo is a boy, he'll love playing with the tractors after the cakes gone.

I made this cake for my nephew'nephew's joint birthday party this summer. Crushed oreos for road, graham crackers for sand, teddy graham for spectators, and the grass was a store bought tube with the star tip included.

I've made cakes for my LO's birthdays, but I'm a horrible baker. I make them because of their food allergies. No bakery could ever accommodate LO2's allergies. I set the bar very low for myself and often surprised when it comes out decent. As far as decorating goes, I keep it simple. I add some sprinkles, a pennant banner, and some candles and call it a day.

@regberadaisy: yes they love pastries, but asians use their ovens for storage... not baking!

I made this cake over the summer for LO's dedication. I used box cake mix and followed a tutorial from a blog to get the tiger stripes.

I did a homemade pound cake for his first birthday. Paula Deen's recipe. It was so good!

@Mrs. Bee: hahahaha SO true about the oven. @jhd: super cute!!! Which dT set is that? Me thinks it will make a great stocking stuffer.

@regberadaisy: It's just a set of five little figures. I got it at Toys R Us, but they also have it at Target, Walmart, & Kmart now I think. LO LOVES them.

@regberadaisy: my sister got that same toy set for DD from Amazon. They're a big hit here, too.

@Mrs. Bee: I lived in various countries in Asia for 8 years and it was SO HARD to find apartments with ovens. I love baking so this was a big hardship for me!

Here are this years 3rd birthday cupcakes (the matching hot pink cake had her name in purple and more monkeys), and 1st birthday rainbow butterfly cake.

@jhd: I love those surprise inside cakes! Did you bake the chocolate one, and then rebake it in vanilla batter?

  21. jhd

    coconut / 8079 posts

@looch: yes that's exactly what I did. Some of the tutorials I looked at said to bake the first cake for a little less time, but I'm pretty sure I just baked it completely. I wasn't expecting the chocolate star to rise as much as it did so I hid the bumpy top by adding strawberries as decoration.

@pmerr: Thanks! I love your cake with the banner! And full disclosure I did two attempts with the tiger stripes because after I frosted the first one I realized that my can of frosting was expired! I was so upset!
