Yes, totally! I would always say, "Well, the Baby needs X" and he had no choice but to do it. Muhahaha.

@shopaholic: noo..Like you, I am very independent and did most everything by myself.
The only time I didn't do it is if it would harm the pregnancy (like lifting really heavy things). I even set up the crib on my own, and I had never used a screwdriver in my life. I also cleaned that there was no tomorrow all the time.
But honestly, the last 1-2weeks, I was just a big, fat bump on a log and I couldn't do anything because I was exhausted. The night before I had my son, we left my car at my moms and me and DH drove home in his car because I was too tired to drive (we met there separately in our own cars).

No, but next time I will! Lol

Not in general, I'll do whatever I can as long as I feel like it won't hurt me or the baby. I still work on my feet, and we are moving this week, so I'm carrying whatever I can (within reason!) and putting together furniture, cleaning, etc.

I do find myself milking it a little more around people who want to baby me though, like my MIL and husband. If they want to spoil me, who am I to stop them?

I was extremely active my whole pregnancy - worked out, did every bit of chore, and worked full time and never asked for help UNTIL 30 weeks when I was put on strict bedrest. Unfortunately, for the next 7 weeks I was very reliant upon my husband, family, and friends.

I actually had a rough pregnancy and couldn't do much.... And it sucked. I get severe migraines and they were awful during pregnancy. Pretty much anything I did triggered a migraine, including walking three steps. So I had to just lay on the couch and do nothing for months. So boring! I would have been much happier actually doing things for myself.

I don't think I really milked it per say but I am kinda a wimp and a complainer to DH. When I was feeling good, I was at work, doing yard work, etc. But when I wasn't I would totally just sit around on the couch.

Definitely not. It would be pretty difficult for me to justify not being able to do things when I'm still going to the gym and lifting heavy weights! Sometimes I think I've been too emphatic with my constant declaration that, "I'm not sick, I'm pregnant!"

@hergreenapples, haha, seriously! How can you lift 50-100 lbs one day, then complain that doing dishes is too hard?

I find it best to do things in spurts. Do housework for an hour, rest for a bit, do another hour's work, etc.

@blackbird: One night, after getting home from the gym, I asked DH to go grab something from the basement because I was too tired. He somewhat jokingly said, "I don't understand how you can do an hour of crossfit but can't go down and back up one flight of stairs?!" Um, yeah, point taken!

Not on purpose, but the first trimester I was so dead on my feet that DH ended up taking over most of the cooking and cleaning. Now that I have energy back, I've started to help out more, because I hate having stuff done for me! I DO,however, stick out my belly when I am running to the bathroom, in hopes that the college kids in front of me will take the hint and MOVE.

If you asked while I was pregnant I'd say I absolutely did not milk my pregnancy. Now that I'm no longer pregnant I'm realizing that I did a bit. I definitely used belly shaming to get a seat on the subway, let my husband change the cat box even though its not that big a risk, and had him take the dog out in the mornings even though he left for work two hours before I did.
My first week not pregnant shocked me because I was still expecting people to get out of my way on the street. Pregnant lady coming through.....not so much.

Not really. I would ask the hubby to pick up things that were "heavy" or too bulky for me though, like an overflowing laundry basket filled with 3 loads of laundry or a 35lb box of frozen croissants, etc., but that's about it.

Not until I developed severe carpel tunnel syndrome around 32 weeks and essentially lost the use of my hands! I had to ask for help for even the most basic of tasks (i.e. peeling oranges, cutting my nails, etc.). I hated it! From the beginning though, DH was good at taking over any tasks that required any type of lifting (I didn't do laundry the entire 9 months!) or getting me anything I wanted/needed without me having to ask him.

I had an awful first tri, beginning of second tri with "morning" sickness (24-hour, 4 month long sickness). During that time, I rarely felt well enough to even walk around our apartment, much less run errands in public. Although I did try...but every outing left me sitting on the floor in the middle of a grocery store/target, feeling dizzy and throwing up into a plastic bag and not able to make it to a bathroom or chair to sit down...so I put a stop to those after a few tries.

So...I wouldn't call it "milking it" since I was horribly ill. But my hsuband definitely had to do a lot more during that time. He didn't do a wholllle lot of cleaning (we kind of just let that go), but he did the grocery shopping, took out the trash, picked up my prescriptions, and brought me toast and water each morning so I could eat before getting up.

Now that I'm finally feeling better, I do most of the food shopping because I get off work earlier. We live in an apt, so there's no outside work. We clean together. He doesn't let me carry anything even remotely heavy...like if we get groceries, he'll insist I only carry like 2 bags, and he'll carry about 15. =)

It depends on how I feel that day. I'm not allowed to lift anything at work, and by the time I get home I'm exhausted, so it impacts what I feel like I can do. Some days, I get everything done, other days, I lean more on DH because I don't have the energy to get off the couch.

I wouldn't call it milking it, but I have leaned on DH more. The first trimester I was just SO tired, I literally could not bear to go to the grocery store on my way home, so we had a lot more frozen dinners and take out/delivery. Only once did I make DH go out and buy us some fast food because I *needed* fries. Now that I'm feeling better, it's only a few things, like lifting heavy bags, etc-- but I have a bad back anyway so it's not smart for me to carry the heavy stuff already.

I did sort of milk it at christmas-- we spent a week with DH's family, I was pretty much at the height of my morning sickness, and his mom was more than happy to take care of me-- it's her first grandchild, I'm her first 'daughter', and she had terrible morning sickness when she was pregnant so totally knew how I felt. So... I may have been a lazy bum and not cleaned or cooked at all that week.

The one thing I refuse to do is clean our bathroom-- there is zero ventilation, no window or fan, and we don't have any of the greener cleaning products. I won't go in a closed box with chemicals like that. Plus when we move next month I'm not carrying anything heavy.

Not really. At home I'm pretty independent. However, at work I've milked it a bit. My boss doesn't want me carrying "heavy files" so he puts them away for me. I don't tell him they're fine and I can do it, I just let him take them... lOl
