I know a lot of people do but I felt like the shower was for baby supplies. And....well....I really didn't want people to think about my nipples when looking at my baby registry. This question brought to you by a friend's baby registry. Haha.

If my insurance won't cover it then I'm definitely going to add one to my registry. I don't think it is a big deal.

I guess I don't understand how pumping supplies aren't "baby supplies." They are something that you need in order to provide for your babies basic needs and are no different than buying a breastfeeding pillow or bottle. I registered for a pump and miscellaneous pumping gear and didn't really think twice about it.

I did, but I didn't expect anyone to buy them for me. I just wanted the completion discount.

I didn't. I added them when I was buying everything with my completion discount, though. I do think they are "baby supplies," but I didn't like the idea of my husband's cousin's wife's brother (slight exaggeration) potentially buying me some breast pads.

Yes, but then I realized our FSA covered all of that stuff so I ended up just buying it.

I did and funny enough a friend of mine asked me for my registry and quickly said she likes to give things for the mom not really the baby. I pointed her to the two Boobease items!

Absolutely! Yeah, insurance gave me a pump, but they didn't give me spare flanges, extra valves, replacement tubing, a car power supply, or hands free pumping bras. And I have desperately needed all of those things to make WOH while breastfeeding doable.

No.. I put it under a separate registry so I can get a discount later.

Yes. My husband's aunt got us my pump. A good friend gave me a good stash of BF supplies (storage bags, nipple cream, pads, those gel so others, ice packs, etc.). I wasn't embarrassed.

I did but mainly for the completion discount. I was so embarrassed (and touched) when my 3rd grade class completed my registry for me and bought all those supplies!

My insurance covered the pump but I or a few other items on there- breast pads, those soothie gel pads. Someone did get them (my parents neighbor!) along with some other items and I appreciated it- though I did feel a little funny at the shower. I still think it's baby gear though! Things for the mon would be more like stretch mark cream or something.

I did. When you think about it, what is more important than feeding a baby? It's kind of the only essential item

I think it's totally fine for other people to, but I did not. Insurance paid for most of my pump and I didn't want people buying me things for my boobs. In already self conscious about them. If the pump hadn't been covered I might have been tempted though.

I actually just went to a friends baby shower and she had some medela supplies on there...steam bags, extra parts, etc and I was excited to buy them for her. I'm an open book when it comes to my breastfeeding experience so she always asks me questions about it. Those things cost me a bunch of money after I had my daughter so I was glad to get them for her!

I had them on there at first when I was using the registry as my place to organize my list of stuff I wanted. Then when it came time to share it with people, including coworkers, I made the decision that nipple pads didn't need to be on there. I preferred to direct people toward other items anyway - the pumping stuff was all fairly cheap.

@bloved: aww that is so sweet
I personally didn't find it necessary to put pumping stuff on my registry. I got my pump from insurance and then just bought any other pumping related items as needed. I didn't need any of that stuff right away and I was glad that I just waited to see what I actually needed.

Yes! I wanted the completion discount. Work actually bought me some stuff but my boss wrapped it separate so I didn't open in front of everyone even though it was part of the group gift.
coconut / 8430 posts
I felt weird about friends and family purchasing that stuff so I put the items on right before I used the completion discount.
clementine / 795 posts
I don't mind when other people do it, but for myself I made a separate list for that kind of stuff to purchase on my own.
coconut / 8854 posts
Yes, and I received most of the items as gifts! Nipple cream, breast pads, milk storage bags, etc. although in my family / circle of friends breastfeeding is very common

Sure-along with a nursing pillow and other supplies. I put things on there to prepare for baby. I also had diapering stuff and didn't worry about people thinking about poop, etc.

Yep and friends were happy to get them for me! And I've gotten them for friends. Not as fun as baby clothes but more needed usually!

Yes! When my sister had her baby I bought her the pump she wanted off her registry gift. I think people will buy it. If not you can use your perks in your registry has to get it discounted. I know that's what I am doing.
pear / 1728 posts
I didn't put any pumping supplies on my registry (I thought everything that came with my pump would be sufficient - ha!). I did register for a nursing pillow, though. I felt weird putting nipple cream, nursing pads, and nursing bras on there so I just bought those myself.
persimmon / 1364 posts
No I didn't. It felt too intimate for me. I didn't want people thinking about my boobs either. Ultimately everything except milk bags was covered by insurance.
persimmon / 1445 posts
I did! Boobs are just for milk, so I don't really care what people were thinking when they shopped my registry. My aunt ended up getting the bottles and DH's work friends got the pump, I ised the completion discount for the rest!
