I think I had one for a little while, but I hated it, so mostly I was on my mom's lap. I got a lot of fat lips as a little kid from hitting the dashboard.

Nope. I don't remember the '80s being that strict. My parents used to tell me how my dad would drive to the hospital with me on his lap because i didn't want to sit with my mom.

I voted sometimes. I know I've seen photos of me as an infant in a carseat, but I definitely didn't have one as long as our kids have one. Our eldest is 8 and he is still in a booster seat. Our youngest is 5 and we just converted him to a booster seat. I KNOW by 5 I was not in any type of carseat.

Gosh, I have no idea! I was born in 1980, so probably not.

We had car seats and booster seats as kids (I don't remember them much, I was too young) but I know that we didn't stay in them nearly as long, and were definetely allowed to ride up front long before it's safe to these days.

Mom said we sat in a car seat and I remember my brother sitting in a booster. I was a very tall child, so I outgrew all the restrictions relatively quickly. I'm shocked that anyone would consider them unnecessary.

Definitely as a baby and maybe as a toddler, but certainly not as long as kids are in them these days. I know I was in the front seat at a young age, though. And, yes, @alayaya, I definitely remember putting the shoulder strap behind me!

I definitely was, and I can remember my parents judging other cars with babies not in carseats, so I'm sure it was some kind of rule at the time (I was born in 81, but I'm sure the judgments I'm remembering were obviously later). But yeah, definitely not as long as kids are supposed to be now, and we definitely sat in the front seat long before our kids will. I remember when we got a car with airbags for the first time and I think my youngest sister was no longer allow in the front seat for another year or two.
My parents were real sticklers with seat belts, too, which has stuck with me to this day-- I put one on to move the car in a parking lot! But I remember squeezing 3 of us in the middle two seater in the minivan and doing the cross over seat belt if we were driving extra friends home. She would only drive like that with her own kids in that seat, though, other people's kids had to be in the real seatbelt configuration.
