I definitely did not ever ride in a carseat as far as I can remember. Did you? Someone on my facebook posted about how we all grew up just fine without them and how unnecessary they are. I definitely dont agree that they are unnecessary but just curious how many of you guys had car seats as children

My parents made me ride in one, but not nearly as long as my kids will!

I voted sometimes. I think when i was an infant my mom had one, but then we didn't use them nearly as long as the reccomendations say

I think I had one for a little while, but I hated it, so mostly I was on my mom's lap. I got a lot of fat lips as a little kid from hitting the dashboard.

Nope. I don't remember the '80s being that strict. My parents used to tell me how my dad would drive to the hospital with me on his lap because i didn't want to sit with my mom.

yup. i had a booster seat too! it was the kind that went over your lap & i closed my finger in the buckle of it once in kindergarten, it was traumatic =D we did double buckle once we got bigger & would smoosh too many kids in a car.

I voted sometimes. I know I've seen photos of me as an infant in a carseat, but I definitely didn't have one as long as our kids have one. Our eldest is 8 and he is still in a booster seat. Our youngest is 5 and we just converted him to a booster seat. I KNOW by 5 I was not in any type of carseat.

No. 1st 3 years of my life were in the Caribbean in the late 70's, so I'm sure there weren't car seat requirements. In the 80's, you didn't have to wear one. I always sat in the back seat and had a fun time.

Out of curiosity, I just asked my mom and I was brought home from the hospital in a car seat (required by law) in 1985.

I'm not sure if I did, but I do know that as a newborn my parents traveled from my grandparents' house to their new home for 2.5 hours with me on my aunt's lap in the backseat. Crazy to think that was considered no big deal.

We had car seats and booster seats as kids (I don't remember them much, I was too young) but I know that we didn't stay in them nearly as long, and were definetely allowed to ride up front long before it's safe to these days.

Mom said we sat in a car seat and I remember my brother sitting in a booster. I was a very tall child, so I outgrew all the restrictions relatively quickly. I'm shocked that anyone would consider them unnecessary.

I do remember always being annoyed by the shoulder strap on my seat belt, so I would put it behind me. Probably lot safe at all!

Definitely as a baby and maybe as a toddler, but certainly not as long as kids are in them these days. I know I was in the front seat at a young age, though. And, yes, @alayaya, I definitely remember putting the shoulder strap behind me!

Not that I remember. I'm sure as a baby yes, but as far back as my memory goes, no. We also rode in the back of the truck and squeezed 6 kids in the back seat of the car. Obviously not the safest thing to do LOL

I definitely was, and I can remember my parents judging other cars with babies not in carseats, so I'm sure it was some kind of rule at the time (I was born in 81, but I'm sure the judgments I'm remembering were obviously later). But yeah, definitely not as long as kids are supposed to be now, and we definitely sat in the front seat long before our kids will. I remember when we got a car with airbags for the first time and I think my youngest sister was no longer allow in the front seat for another year or two.
My parents were real sticklers with seat belts, too, which has stuck with me to this day-- I put one on to move the car in a parking lot! But I remember squeezing 3 of us in the middle two seater in the minivan and doing the cross over seat belt if we were driving extra friends home. She would only drive like that with her own kids in that seat, though, other people's kids had to be in the real seatbelt configuration. -
I know my parents had infant car seats for us, but when we were toddlers+, I don't think we had car seats. So I voted sometimes, although I honestly don't remember. I don't remember ever having a booster seat though, so I'm going to go with no. We did always wear our seat belts though!

I don't have any memories of being in a car seat or a booster seat... I was born in 1985, I'm kind of assuming I was in one as an infant though...
I wish there was a way to do it safely.
