I honestly somewhat blame the two prenatal yoga classes I did for my pre-term labor. But I was complicated to start with...

I've been doing it since 20 some odd weeks (currently 34 weeks) and I love it. My first was posterior which eventually led to me getting a c-section so I'm trying to promote better positioning this time. Even if that doesn't happen, it's been great for aches and pains, as well as been super relaxing for me to do for myself since I have a toddler at home, the "Me" time was much appreciated!

I will say, I have actively done yoga for many years outside of pregnancy though.. if I had never done it, I'm not sure if I would like it as much?

I like yoga a lot pregnant or not. I continued to practice yoga for my entire pregnancy with my son. I thought it helped me with the aches and pains and with labor itself. I HIGHLY recommend it!

I did it off and on during both pregnancies and feel it helped with aches and pains. It was also nice to connect with other pregnant women.

My husband and I have been doing yoga 1-3 times a week together at our local gym (they have offer it as a class), for a year and a half now. At 10 weeks, I've been continuing to go to the class, but modifying my practice according to the common guidelines found online. Also, my instructor knows so she can suggest modifications. I'm going to stick with the gym class instead of a prenatal class bc the price is so different ($30 a month for the two of us, compared to $70+ a month for one person!!!)

@getjazzy: @Alba4: I've done yoga in the past and liked it. I should see if there are any classes nearby.

I didn't have a convenient prenatal class nearby so I did my regular class with modifications and it really helped me unwind and feel strong.

I continued normal Hatha yoga with modifications during first & second tri, then started prenatal after about 24 weeks I think...I had to try a few places but ended up in a great one & loved it. She gave us loads of tips on breathing which I think really helped during labour. If you're not used to meditations and 'going inwards', I imagine it can be an adjustment, but once you have a big belly, you really start to appreciate the modifications & crazy slow pace of the classes.

Yes it was a great addition to my regular practice! It was the best in the third trimester with my tight hips. I hope you can give it a try.

Yes! My class was only weekly, but it definitely helped in terms of relaxation and mindfulness. It definitely helped pain on the day I did it as well, but I can't say that it helped on days I didn't do it. I liked meeting the other people too.

I'm continuing with normal yoga and modifying as needed at 22 weeks. Basically no twisting in the midsection and I can't really flow through anymore since I can't lay on my belly. I've heard prenatal yoga isn't as much of a workout and I still want to be challenged.

I swear by it. I did it from 20 weeks with my first and now have done it since 12 weeks with this one. I feel completely different if I have to skip a week, and i'm so much tighter and more uncomfortable if I don't make it to class. I had to skip last week's and all I can think about is yoga on Saturday morning....
I also just think it made me have a more comfortable pregnancy and I learned great tips and coping skills for labor.

I tried a prenatal class near my house and didn't think it was worth the money. The teacher was quite chatty and I didn't feel like it did much for me. I get more out of stretching at home or doing yoga videos from youtube! But I definitely think there are huge benefits from yoga during pregnancy!

I've been doing yoga for years and love it. My midwife says having practiced yoga can help during labor. I just picked up a prenatal yoga DVD from my library, but I haven't tried it yet.
I went to a class last week, but it was more aerobic and not what I was looking for. I like hatha yoga, it's more relaxing, stretching, breathing, and meditation. So if you are interested, think about what you want from your yoga practice and find that.

I did it the first time round and loved it (I already did yoga regularly before that). I think it definitely helped keep me flexible, relaxed and comfortable until the end - although I can't say I felt it helped during labour. I'd love to do it again this time but not sure when I'd fit it in around DS.

I did it after being recommend by my OB, due to some hip and back issues and trouble sleeping. I can't say enough good things about it. The remainder of my pregnancy was so much easier. My instructor is also a physiotherapist and modifies yoga positions for pre- and postnatal, and included additional stretching and strengthening exercises. At the beginning of the class she listens to our individual complaints and structures the class to address them. LO and I started going back at 8 weeks pp. It's a combined class, so the pregnant ladies get to listen to and interact with the new mamas and babies.
