I admit that I wanted a girl first and a boy second, probably because I have a younger brother myself. In most Asian cultures, everyone traditionally wanted a boy first but these days it seems like everyone wants a girl first.
Did you want a boy or a girl? Or did gender not matter?

I have to admit that I really want all boys. We plan to adopt, and if we do, we'd like a girl. But somehow i just see myself raising boys...

I really wanted a boy because I had/have a tumultuous relationship with my mother and I wasn't sure I had it in me to do the mom/daughter thing!

I've always wanted a girl and so when I found out I was pregnant with my son, we were both in shock. Happy but extremely surprised. I love having a boy. More than I ever thought I would, but now that we are TTCing for baby deux, I can't help but keep thinking girl. I even wrote a post about it. http://blushink.com/really-wanting-a-girl/

I really wanted a boy first... probably because I had an older brother. We were team green and when he was born hubby said "Like always - you got what you wanted" (He was also born on the day I was hoping for and had strawberry hair!) Now if he would just be left-handed!
Now that I have my boy I'm kinda indifferent on baby 2 - but it would be nice to even things out with a little girl

That depends-- if you promise me that I can have two babies, I'd love to have a boy first, then a girl. There's something I love love love about the big brother - little sister dynamic. However, if one little one is all we will get, my choice would be for a little girl.

I was just hoping to have a healthy baby, but would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bummed when I was told I was having a boy. Well, to everyone's surprise baby turned out to be girl

I really wanted a girl because I have a great relationship with my mom. Also as the saying goes, "a daughter is your daughter for life, a son is a son until he meets his wife" of course I love my boy and love that he is a momma's boy for now...we are only going t have 2 so if the next one isn't a girl I will be ok with that too.

Obviously, I'll be happy to have whatever we end up (hopefully) having one day. However, I have to admit that I dream of having a little girl. It makes no logical sense since my own mother and I have a rough time of things sometimes (not really bad, just not awesome). But I can't help it. I think Craig is keeping his fingers crossed for a girl too just because he's not sure what will happen if I don't get one!

We are Team Green, and after our infertility journey I truly just want a healthy baby. However, I will admit I'm a bit scared of having a girl. I've always talked about wanting all boys. I'm not a girly girl so the real scare to me is having a teenage daughter!

We had a girl first, and so now it really shouldn't matter... but with adoption there is the possibility of specifying. It's a big topic worthy of a lengthy post... but suffice it to say that there are many considerations that going in to making this choice when it actually is within your control!

I've always, always wanted a girl first, but as we get closer to actually becoming pregnant, I keep imagining having a little boy.
My husband is on the all-girl train, though. He comes from a family of two boys and I think he knows what a handful they can be : )

I always wanted a boy first because I'd rather have all boys than all girls, so in case I don't have one of each at least I'll have boys. Having a boy first got all the pressure out of the way and now it doesn't matter what we have next.

I'm all confused on this subject. I've always wanted a boy first, then a girl. But then when we started thinking about trying, I really wanted a girl first, because I really want at least one girl. My husband would rather a girl first, then a boy. But then we had a bump in the road with a miscarriage, so now all I want is a healthy human baby!

I have trouble imagining having a boy. I grew up just me and my little sister. Little boys are a little foreign to me.
However, since my first is a little girl, I'd really like my next to be a little boy. It would be wonderful to see my husband and my father with a son/grandson.
However, I really, truly just pray for a healthy baby.

All my friends have boys...I can't see myself with a boy. So I want a girl. But if we have a boy it will be the first of this generation and a big deal for the family.

I'm only slightly leaning more towards a girl right now because of how cute the frilly clothes are, but we both will be happy as long as the baby is healthy. We find out on Friday so I'm getting anxious, but have been having feelings I'm harboring a little boy.

I really don't know! My sister has two little girls (22 months and 13 months) so it would be kind of cool to have the first boy in our family. But having a girl would be pretty fun too.

but ideally, i've always wanted a girl so i wanted a girl first so like someone else said, it takes the pressure off. then i know at least i have one girl and it won't matter what the next gender is.

I feel like I'm going to have all boys, since boys run on the male side of my husbands family and I've heard that is the biggest predictor of gender. I'd really like at least one of both, so I'm hoping for a girl first because then I wouldn't be worried about maybe not having one.

I wanted a girl first but for some reason was setting myself up for getting a boy. Hubs always thought our baby would be a girl and he was right! I was in such disbelief that we were having a girl-- I was still confirming right after I gave birth. It was the first question I asked, "Is it a girl?!"

I would love to get pregnant. If that happens, I would like to have a girl. It seems like there are boys being born all around us. My husband's sisters had 4 boys between them and my brother's wife is pregnant with their first son. I would love to bring a girl into our family.
It's just strange that I want a girl, I have always been one who gets along with guys better than girls. I guess I thought I would want a boy because of that. Maybe it's because I can't think of one good boy name that I like and can think of plenty of girl names.

I'm really nervous about this because I really want a girl. I'm worried that if I have a boy, I'll turn into my grandmother and keep trying to have a girl (she had five boys, then a girl, thought her luck had changed, and had two more boys). Ideally I think I'd like a boy first and then a girl, but in a way, I'd rather have a girl first just so that I have one, haha.
@Blushink - I just read your post and I think that's exactly how I feel. I don't have kids yet, but I know that if I have two boys, I'll just be devastated. I've always always always wanted a girl and to not get one... well... you know. And two is our limit as well, so I guess we'll just hope for the best. If I have two boys, obviously I'll love them with all my heart, but I know a piece of me will be disappointed to not have a daughter.

I think we'd prefer a boy and then a girl, but honestly, I just want a healthy baby. Maybe we'll end up with twins, one of each. With our family histories, it's possible.

I've always thought that I'd want a boy first (same as hubs) but all I can think about lately are little girl names and cutesy little girls things! Oh well, as long as the kiddo is healthy, I'll be a super happy momma!

When I was pregnant, I really wanted a boy. There was even a stinging feeling of disappointment when we found out she was a girl. But now that we have her, I'm soooo glad I have a daughter. It's been Soo fun shopping and dressing her up. But I still want my next one to be a boy. I want me a momma's boy!

I always pictured myself with two boys...and I've gotten the exact opposite: two girls! We MAY try for one more in the future in hopes for a boy, but we're not sure at this point.
...Besides, they say having two daughters lead to the most harmonious and happiest family life!

I'd like to have a boy first, mostly for petty reasons. My SIL had a girl this year, and she's very competitive, i.e. "I'm better than you in everything". I really don't want my child to deal with that and be compared to her daughter. I just think it will be worse if I had a girl.

I secretly wanted a girl first, but really, I think I would have been happy either way with my first. I was happy when I got my wish though, with my baby daughter. I'm not planning on having a second child until a couple more years, but I think I'd still be happy with either gender. A boy would be a nice change, but at the same time another girl would probably play very well with my daughter.
My grandmother told me that in Japanese culture, it's said that it's ideal to have a girl first (to help out with the younger siblings), and two boys afterwards (to carry the family name, with the second one being a "backup" in case something happens to the first one -- horrible, I know. But I suppose that's the way they thought back in the day, when child mortality was high.)
