DH originally said he wanted to stay near my head, but as LO came down further and the nurse kept saying you could see her hair he changed his mind. I think he's very brave.... I didn't want to look there!

Yes. He told me he was glad that he saw, but he was happy that I didn't! lol!
ETA: It wasn't the plan at all!

We also planned for head side, but DH ended up seeing ALL of it... he was in awe.
coconut / 8475 posts
He didn't want anything to do with it when we talked, prior to me going into labor.
At the time though? He was super intrigued and watched it all, very intently.
He was amazed.
grapefruit / 4278 posts
Like others, my DH said beforehand he didn't want to look, but he was right there in the action holding one of my legs and how could you not look!
coconut / 8498 posts
He did. He doesn't get grossed out by much, and that was the least of my worries at the time.
clementine / 896 posts
I didn't think he'd want to actually watch but he was RIGHT THERE the whole time. He was totally amazed. I thought it was pretty sweet he was excited to watch. And we never talked about it beforehand.
honeydew / 7283 posts
I have no idea and I don't think I'm going to ask him! I didn't push for very long and there were about a million people there (NICU & respiratory for M and then everyone for me - my mom said she counted 14 people!) I was just trying to tune them out and push that kid out!
In case that sounds horrible, I absolutely remember everything that DH did immediately after the birth, the "during" is just a little blurry!
kiwi / 613 posts
Yes, he did look and watched everything. I didn't want a mirror or want to touch LO's head when the nurse asked me! I am wayyy squeamish, but DH is definitely not!
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
Heck no. His body was facing the wall & his face was super close to mine. He held the back to my head & whispered encouragements in my ear. He would've passed out if he saw even a little of it. I would've loved to have a mirror though!
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
@CottonCandy: Touching her head was one of my favorite parts of the delivery! I had been so composed, but as soon as I reached down to touch her head I LOST it!
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
Yep, he was helping me brace my dead weight leg, and got a front row seat. So did my mom, and my MIL. And me, eventually, when they brought the mirror over.

We didn't really have a plan, but the space between my head and my business wasn't that big, and he just looked because well, when a baby is coming out you look I guess! lol!
pear / 1570 posts
DH is super squemish but when it came right down to it he said he couldn't help but to watch! Like @MsLipGloss DH was happy that he saw and glad that I didn't.
The whole thing is pretty amazing when you think about it!
coconut / 8305 posts
Yep! The original plan was to not & then he wanted to catch, but after the transfer he ended up just seeing it (he was behind the nurses pushing me on the gurney down the hall). We both really hope he gets to catch the next!!
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
Ugh - I told him not to look, but he did... and got it ALL on video. The only good thing was that I only pushed for 2 min... which is exactly how much space we had left on the SD card - haha
grapefruit / 4085 posts
Same here - wasn't originally going to, but it sort of just happens. He was holding my leg and was right there, then when things started to really happen, the dr. told him to take a look and from there on, he was there! I have a sneaking suspicion I went to the bathroom, but I will never ask - I don't want it confirmed!!!
pear / 1837 posts
He was holding a leg so yeah, he was all up in there. He's pretty unfazed by such things, and if it bothered him then or afterwards, he didn't say anything to me about it, and it's not like he's been afraid of my nether regions since, so I'm assuming he's good. He'll probably do the same with baby #2.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
I didn't realize it, but he was looking down there! And he almost fainted when I got the episiotomy! But then I guess once the head started to come out, Hubs got excited! I'm glad I couldn't see anything though.

My husband is not one to find things like that gross. He saw one of his sons born (For the second, they were already separated and she didn't tell him she went into labour).
I told him I wanted him at my head, and he says "but why? I've already seen how it all works" and I say "yes, but not with me and I'd like to keep it that way" haha. I'm sure once there, I won't care, but right now I'd rather him not see my vag get torn to shit.
watermelon / 14206 posts
I have no idea what he saw, and I'd rather keep it that way. There was a point the nurses escorted him and my mom out of the room. No miracles happening here, so it was all bad.
kiwi / 613 posts
@photojane: Looking back on it, part of me definitely does wish I had touched the head! That sounds like such a special moment for you
bananas / 9357 posts
Yep! He saw it all. He said he didn't want to b/c his friends had told him that there are just some things that you can't unsee. lol But when the time came, he watched our son get delivered. He has no regrets.
pomelo / 5178 posts
Like with others, my husband didn't want to see it originally, but ended up watching our first be born. He said it was the most amazing thing he'd ever seen, and watched again the second time around!
pomelo / 5524 posts
Unfortunately, yes! I didn't want him looking down there as I wanted him to still want to make baby #2! Haha...but he was entirely too curious. After 2 hours of pushing, I was wheeled into the OR for my emergency C, and that's when he wished he hadn't looked. He said watching them pull S out of me was kind of horrifying as he didn't look like a baby coming out and my insides were outside.
grapefruit / 4400 posts
He looked (he was holding one of my legs and then later, pushing against my back), but it was an over-the-shoulder view... so I doubt it was as "National Geographic"-y as if he were down below.
pear / 1992 posts
Yep saw the whole thing. I also had a mirror though and he helped our midwife catch LO after her head was out so he was really involved and definitely not squeamish. I love it and am hopeful it will be the same for our next child. I was able to carry her and feel her while I was pregnant but it was her daddy who saw and held her first.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
Oh man, I hope my DH doesn't look! I originally didn't even want him in the delivery room but he wasn't having it. I think a good compromise should be that he promise no matter what not to look down there lol!
kiwi / 612 posts
He was mostly up by my head, helping me breathe and generally being awesome and encouraging, but he told me he looked right as my LO was crowning and said it was amazing.
After LO was born, he was going between the two of us, but kept a nice safe distance as they were stiching me up - I don't think either of us wanted him to see that!
pomegranate / 3858 posts
@2PeasinaPod: my DH told me 3 months PP that he'd caught a glimpse of me open on the table when he went to see LO at the side of the room. He said it wasn't pleasant so he didn't want me to know he'd seen anything!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
Yep. Both times. He took pics of my kids coming out!
persimmon / 1153 posts
Yep! Right next to my midwife watching the whole thing. He thought it was neat to watch everything happen.
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
Yes, he stood there for 3 hours while I pushed the first time but I ended up with a C-section.
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
Yup! His friends told him its pretty tough to avoid seeing everything so he embraced it and went in planning to watch.
honeydew / 7687 posts
Yeah somewhere along the way during the 40+ weeks he went from NO WAY to GET OUT MY WAY. I protested but eventually didn't care one way or the other.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
He was holding a leg but kept his eyes on my face. He didn't want to look. He said he could see out of the corner of his eye but he didn't look. He just looked once the doctor had pulled her out.
