From what I have read, they usually wouldn't consider you higher risk if you had one miscarriage, it would only be if you had a history of multiple miscarriages. But if I were you, I'd figure out what practice you will want to see anyway and call them and find out their policy and see if they could see you earlier for peace of mind anyway.

For me my annual visit was due around the time that we started TTC, so I went to the new practice for a regular check up, and got all the details about what to do when when I did eventually get pregnant, but that timing was just luck.

I mentioned it to my doctor but he didn't want to see me early because of it. In the UK, you have to have 3 m/cs before you are treated any differently. We ended up going to a private clinic and paying for an early u/s for peace of mind.

I called my doctor the day I got my BFP and he put me on progesterone that day. We scheduled an ultrasound for 7-8 weeks. He saw me every 3 weeks until this last appointment at 22 weeks which was past our loss at 20 weeks.

I switched doctors after my mc and while I was meeting with new doctors I asked how many mc it would take for them to run tests and would they be willing to run blood work immediately next time. It was important to me that my new doctor knew my expectations and he did follow through when I got my next BFP.

I went in at around 6-7 weeks for my first appt and also had more ultrasounds in the beginning. My doctor understood that I was nervous so was willing to accommodate my requests for earlier or more frequent appts.

Yep! I went for an u/s at 4 weeks, 6 weeks and then another at 8 weeks.

If all else fails just say you don't know how far along you are and just say you could be 9 weeks hahah

Like @78H2O, They did labs (beta hcg/progesterone) checked right away. If progesterone was/ is the issue and they figure it out early, they can give you hormones to help make the pregnancy stick. My lab came back normal, so it was a relief. He was still planning to see me earlier than he normally sees patients without a history of miscarriage. At 6 weeks I had cramping and bleeding, which was another miscarriage. So, now we know progesterone is not the issue and are waiting for more lab results from blood taken post miscarriage. Repeat miscarriages are not that common, but I am glad to have the early lab results to rule out progesterone as the issue. I would find a doctor that will do early tests.

After my first miscarriage, we scheduled an initial appointment at 8 weeks - around the typical time, but we were scheduled for an ultrasound which isn't typical. But when I had some spotting at 7 weeks, they got me in that day for labs and an ultrasound. Sadly, we later had another miscarriage.

For my third pregnancy, I called as soon as I knew I was pregnant and was put on progesterone right away as a precaution. I then got ultrasounds at 8, 10, and 12 weeks before going onto the normal appointment schedule. I think it is definitely worth mentioning to the doctor that you have had a previous miscarriage.

ETA: just wanted to mention I had previously had labs done that showed progesterone was not an issue, but doctor still prescribed it just in case. The pregnancy was successful - may or may not have been related to progesterone, but I am definitely getting it again next time.

I'm hoping that when I get pregnant again, I will go in earlier. Each of the first pregnancies, I was supposed to have an appointment at 7weeks, but I never made it that far either time. But, they were great with getting me in this last time to address spotting at 6 weeks. I had an ultrasound then, which is when we found out we lost the baby. The nurse has told me to call right away when I get pregnant again. I was on progesterone last time and imagine I will be next time as well. But like you, I'm going to want peace of mind

@Thenetexan: yes. He had me start it as soon as we were ready/cleared to try again. He told me that some recent findings have been very favorable for it.

I've always been seen asap. Ultrasounds at 6, 8, and 10 weeks....my doctor has always been very understanding. They also put me on folgard, baby aspirin, and progesterone asap!

So, yes, it's always good to let them know

At the practice I go to, the OB won't see you until 8w. However, if you've had a MC, she will see you at 6.

When I got pregnant, I'd had two previous miscarriages and was seeing an RE. We were about to begin IUI and by coincidence- I just happened to get pregnant the old way. That said, he immediately put me on progesterone inserts because previous pregnancies had shown low progesterone. I'll never know for sure, but I think this is why I've been fortunate enough to get to 26 weeks. Also, he had me in every week for a U/S beginning at 5 weeks. I think every doctor, OB or RE should do this for someone who has had miscarriages, so I would insist upon it and interview your doctor ahead of time. It's crazy to me how some doctors seem to take a "wait and see attitude" and refuse to see an anxious, previously-miscarried mother early in her pregnancy.
