Like before they let you take LO home?
I know my hospital will do an inspection if I want them to, like fire stations do, but im not sure if they'll look at it before LO goes home with us.

No, they just asked us if we had one and of course they saw us put lo in it before we left the hospital.

Nope! In fact they refused to. They said legally they can't make any statements about car seat safety.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
They did, they wanted to see that we knew how to strap her into it.

They didn't inspect the car seat or installation but they inspected how we buckled him in.

Ours did! Well, they pretty much just made sure we had one (we had to bring it in and show it)...They didn't look at our base in the car or anything...

Yes, on the buckling part. No on the base, but they did give us a pamphlet to the carseat safety website so you can find a place/day to do this. In fact, in Portland where I live and if you deliver at any of the hospitals in the city, they won't let you take the baby home from the hospital in anything but an infant carseat. So if you plan on delivering at the hospital but purchased a convertible carseat for your car... You have to borrow an infant carseat in order to check out. Little overboard, if you ask me...

No And our nurse actually set us up to incorrectly buckle our LO in !! Glad I double checked the manual when we got home. I had installation checked by the police station.

We also had to buckle them in for the nurse but they didn't check base installation

Our hospital has inspections on Wednesdays but the nurses/staff aren't allowed to inspect or assist in any way for liability purposes. There are no certified inspectors on staff there.

Nope. The lady who pushed my wheelchair wasn't a nurse and let me out by the door of the hospital, not even next to the car. Guess she thought we knew what we were doing.

Yes. It was part of the terms of being released and being able to take our LOs home. They couldn't tell us how to install it or fix it if it was installed incorrectly for liability purposes, but they did check it in our car before we could leave. They also checked to see that we strapped in the babies correctly.

No they just asked if we had questions installing it and correctly buckling in baby.

Nope. I think they asked if we had questions about buckling her up, but didn't look at the car.
I was really glad we went to the fire station (actually after LO was born). She was sleeping in the carseat at the time but they still were able to inspect the base. They actually gave us great tips about buckling her up so it was valuable to actually have her there in the seat when it was done.

they did not inspect the installation, but since we were buckling him up in our hospital room and were having trouble figuring it out, the nurse was kind of enough to help us do it properly. But it was not like they were going to inspect before we were allowed to go home with him.

Nope, I think they only require if babies are less than 6 lbs or so....

Our hospital's guards are also certified carseat inspectors so they will not allow you to leave til they check base. No one checked her buckle but they smiled at us while we were leaving and could clearly see she was in correctly (right straps, chest clip at armpit level over chest, not belly) etc.

Our hospital checked to make sure DS was properly buckled in but they didn't check our base.

They made sure we had one and watched us buckle her in but besides that, no. The nurse walked us to the door of the hospital but that's where she left us so she didn't check the base or anything (although she did require the car to be on with the air on since it was so hot).

No, the nurse just made sure we had one and watched us put her in the car (base already installed)

@septemberlove: They didn't! I wish they would! They do check that you buckle them into the seat but they don't check the car.
persimmon / 1341 posts
Nope. They said they aren't legally able to because of liability reasons.
