I see that a lot of people do that now. But I'm way too lazy to make a whole (even if it's little) cake just for her. We'll be having cupcakes, and she'll get one of those.

We had one of those giant cupcake cakes and then I made regular cupcakes with the extra batter and that is what she used.

Yes, we got a coupon for a free smash cake for DD's birthday, so she got that. She fed most of it to the dogs, though.

As in a smash cake no, because I spent $200 on a special tiered cake from the bakery just so I wouldn't have to be dealing with baking.

Oh, cupcakes are a good idea. I took a cake decorating class and can't wait to be able to make kids' cakes. I'm anti-smash though, so my LO would just have a piece of her own, same as everyone else.

I wanted to get LO her own smash cake but have decided against it. She might not even get a cupcake!

I made a big cake, for the guests and used some batter to make a mini cake for Mavrick. Bascially a 9" round cake that I used a glass to cut in 3 small round layers.
This is what his cake looked like

Oh i forgot to add, I made my own cake because I opted for a less sugary cake seeing it was the first time he was having it. And the frosting wasn't as sweet at the guest cake.

Papa Y doesn't want Baby Y to have ANY, which makes me kinda sad. I can overrule him ... maybe just a tiny piece

@chopsuey119: that's such a cute cake!!
@Mrs. Yoyo: birthday cake at your 1 year is a MUST and right of passage for a baby!! Feed him some frosting.
At some of the grocery stores in Dallas, if you order a cake with them, they give you a free smash cake for your LO.

Yes and no. LO had two first birthday parties, one with family and one with friends. For the family party, we purchased a cake and received the "smash" cake for free. For the friend party, I made a cake and just gave her the first piece cut.

@artbee: Oh, just because of her milk allergy...I found a baker who does non-dairy cakes but I'm not so sure it's worth it! Then I found recipes so that I can bake it myself but again, not sure it's worth it! And I can barely bake things that come from a box!

@Rubies: Lol, maybe you can find an easier non dairy dessert for her.

Yup! I made her a big Moose and Zee sheet cake, it was a big hit and she loved it. She had like 3 cakes that year though haha, mine, MIL's, and my mom's.
