I just stuck to certain colors for LO 1 & 2 but I think a theme might be fun for LO 3's first birthday in August.
Her favorite things are not things I want to plan a party around....hairbrushes, remotes and cell phones!

I've still got 5 months until her birthday.... but I'm already thinking about it! I'm going to do a rose garden/tea party theme. 
So far my ideas are fresh flowers, petit fours, pink, red, and white decor, and that's it.

For DS' first bday, no. I did more of a color theme. For DS second bday, we reused a lot of the decorations from first bday. His cake was a character from a Richard Scarry book. I'm not too concerned with themes. It was festive and fun!

Our theme was classic pooh with soft neutral colors and I made a banner and some decorations, and we ordered the cake with that theme.
However, my dad was hosting (his house is way bigger than ours), and he said he'd take care of paper goods. I told him the theme and he just ignored it and bought crazy pink minnie mouse plates and some totally random boyish looking birthday napkins and cups, so our actual theme ended up looking like whatever was in the clearance bin at target.

Yes, it was a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom theme. They actually weren't into the book at all, but they are A (Alice) and B (Blake), so I wanted to do an alphabet theme.

It was a children's book theme. Which only meant it was on the invitations and I posted signs next to the food with a cute name (like Deviled green eggs or one fish two fish gold fish). The decorations were mainly pink and gold themed.

I'm leaning toward "Auggiesaurus" because this little guy makes the loudest, dinosaur-type sounds ever! Lol
We'll probably not have a real theme and just make it look pretty with colors.

Didn't have a theme with DS #1's first birthday party. For DS #2's birthday this month, I'm thinking Hot Wheels since he loves to play with them.

Twinkle twinkle little star. I still sing it to her every night, well now she sings it to me. but mostly it gave me an excuse to use lots of pink and glitter.

We did Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for a boy. Just star shapes and primary colors.

We did sprinkles and sparkles, so I picked a color palette and did lots of sprinkles, confetti, and glitter in those colors.

We did a garden tea party for DD1 and DD2 was pink/spring brunch. Both were simple and very flowery

@autumnlove: Hairbrushes haha! This made me laugh out loud. We have six months but I'm a planner. 
I am thinking puppy dogs for his first bday party theme! Need something kind of simple bc we won't be in town - his bday is the day before Thanksgiving and our decorations need to be portable.

Actually, I did a favorite things party and I think it turned out really cute. The (minimal) decorations were solid colors, but I incorporated the theme 2 ways:
The invitation said "come celebrate with DS's favorite things and people (you!)" and I made an envelope liner with a collage of dime-sized images of his favorite things.
Also, instead of cake for the guests, we had custom sugar cookies decorated like his favorite things -- yes, even a bathtub, meatballs, and his sippy cup. It was totally random and everyone was cracking up and fighting over their favorite ones.
I say go for it - what better way to celebrate someone than making the day all about what they love best? You can definitely make it cute even if her favorites are a hairbrush and remote control!

Monsters, but we didn't go overboard with decor - cupcakes decorated like monsters, a monster banner, then a lot of balloons that matched the color of cupcakes/banner (orange, blue, green)

@autumnlove: ha! that reminds me - I was originally going to serve only his favorite foods, but then I decided that people wouldn't appreciate eating only peas, meatballs, and blueberries for lunch. So I stopped at cookies.

We did a "fiesta" which was perfect for a hot summer birthday! If I have a party for him this year, we would probably do something relating to trains. He's obsessed.

We are doing a music theme. It's Memorial Day weekend so lots of bright colors.

Circus dogs! I made a silhouette of our dog in various positions and made various signs including one where it looked like he was on a tightrope, another being shot out of a canon, balancing on a ball, etc. was a lot of fun! Circus-looking cake, popcorn, etc.
