So at my 37w appointment today, my midwife felt the baby a little bit from outside and said she estimates she is close to 7 lbs. How are they even able to estimate like that?!?
I'm not worried about it at all, more just curious. My practice is very hands off and doesn't send you for a routine late U/S for size or anything, and I'm not concerned they'll want to induce or push cesarean based on size.
Did anyone have a size estimate done like this? Was it close to accurate?

Yes, the midwife at 37 weeks estimated that at 40 weeks, baby would be approx 8 lbs, and at my 39 week appt, my ob estimated the same. LO was born the day before EDD and was 8 lbs 2oz!

With DS1 while I was in labor my nurse guessed 7 1/2 lbs. He was 7lbs 8ozs! And with DS2 my midwife told me at 39 weeks and during labor he'd be about 8lbs and he was 8lbs 2ozs.

They did mine in labor, both nurse and doc guessed around 7 1/2 and she was 8.4lbs.

She estimated (based on my weight gained and fundal length) that I would delivery a 6/6.5lb baby. I went 3 days overdue and he was 7.8lbs. She was a good pound off. Oh well... He fit nB for about 6w

Yep, two of my midwives estimated LO at 6.5/7 lbs and she was born at 6lbs 11oz.

around 37 weeks my midwives estimated 6.75 and 7 lbs, LO was born at 41 weeks at 7.5 lbs.

Oh wow, so it does sound accurate for a lot of people. This could be a big little lady if I go all the way to 40w or beyond...

he did, he said 8.5/9 lbs. he was only 7lbs 12oz. and that was 6 days past due.

They all thought he would be in the mid 8 lbs and he was 7 lb 2oz at 40w4d

My OB manually measured her from the outside and I had 2 late ultrasounds done (like 38 and 40 weeks). The ultrasound tech said LO would be about 8 pounds while my OB thought she would be more like 9. LO was born at 40+2 at 8 pounds exactly!
