I'm contemplating switching OBs right now, but at the same time it could be another dr that delivers so I'm not all that concerned, did your OB end up delivering your baby or did you have another dr?

Mine did, but mine was an induction and he felt like it was the 'right' thing to do since it was so early. I'm pretty sure he will deliver our next baby regardless because he is a close family friend and he will probably schedule so he can deliver.

My OB stayed post-call to deliver our daughter. She went to her tennis lesson and then came back for delivery. It was awesome!

I had a midwife but ended up needing a csection which has to be performed by an OB. My midwife was able to assist though and she actually delivered DS!

Mine did. She had told us at our 1st appt that if I went into labor during the week that she'd deliver almost for sure but weekends were harder bc she has 2 daughters. i ended up getting induced on a Wednesday. She broke my water at 6pm and came back at 4am when I started pushing, then ended up w a c section at 6am.

If we'd gone with one of the 3 OBs at our satellite practice, the chances of having ours deliver were slim: 3/27, unless it was a planned induction.
We see a midwife who works for our practice but isn't allowed to deliver at our hospital. We decided we cared more about getting care from her the entire pregnancy rather than going with someone we maybe wouldn't like as much on the off-chance that they'd be the on-call when we delivered, or that I'd end up needing to be induced.

My OB did my csection. He came to the hospital in the morning after I was admitted before he went into his office and returned at the end of the day to performs csection. I felt very calm having him there bc he is a great surgeon and credit him in large part for my awesome recovery.

Mine would have stayed, but she had to hop on a plane to get married! So, another OB delivered.

Nope. I didn't have an OB, I saw a midwife, had a different midwife through my labor and then was delivered by an OB when it was determined I needed forceps.

I had another doctor in the practice deliver the baby. When I was in labor I honestly wouldn't have cared if a moose performed the delivery, as long as a healthy baby came out of me in the end.

Yes, I was so surprised that he was on call the weekend I delivered. He and our pediatrician had just been on vacation, so I hoped we could hold out until they got back!

Nope. Mine had just started a week long vacation. But I also delivered 2.5 weeks early.

My OB practice has 8 doctors, I knew one of them would deliver her. Luckily, I got my favorite OB in our practice for delivery!

Yes, but we scheduled my c-section for the day she was on call so I would have her at my delivery. Otherwise, I would have gotten whichever doctor was on call.

Nope. Actually none of the doctors from the office came to visit or deliver the baby. My doctor was on vacation. I'm not very happy with that office and will not be going back. Oh and they don't have very many excuses because their office is located inside the hospital, and I delivered during business hours.

No, but I knew that going in. Since I lived in a different canton (like a state) than my doctor, I had to deliver in the canton hospital. My doc could deliver there, but it wouldn't be covered by insurance, so we just opted to have the on call OB attending. The midwives do the delivery anyway. The OB just shows up at the end.

Nope. She was there when I was induced but another OB delivered DS. I swear the OB that delivered, that woman was an angel sent from heaven. She was exactly the kind of person I needed, she was sweet, comforting, just perfect, I loved her and only met her there and then.

She did, She had also came in the day before (I was induced) and told me that if at any point during the night I was uncomfortable with the on call MD (horrible bed side manner) to call her (she actually gave me her cell phone #) and she would come right in for me. I heart my doctor!

My doctor delivered my baby (non scheduled middle of the night delivery). There are 6 doctors in my OB's practice, but my doctor almost always delivers her patient's babies unless she is out of town or there is some other circumstance preventing her from being there.
If you decide to switch OBs, ask how their practice handles deliveries - is it the on call doctor or your doctor?

I haven't delivered yet, but I am working with a midwife practice...I've seen all of them in rotation during the pregnancy and will have whoever is on call deliver LO. I definitely have one or two that I am hoping will be on that day!

Yep! Our doctor's practice deliver their own babies unless they are out of town. Our doctor actually was there all morning, he cancels his office appointments (or has them covered by his NP) and is present through out the end of labor. He is great!

@mamabolt: I have the same situation. I'm working with a group of midwives and we're planning a homebirth, so I'll definitely have my caregivers at the birth!

I haven't delivered yet, but I have a 1 in 5 chance of getting my particular OB. And probably less than that since my doc works fewer office hours than the others, so she probably has less on call shifts too. But I've had appts with all of the OBs and feel plenty comfortable with any of them.

nope! my ob was on vacation. i wasn't due for another 2.5 weeks and delivered on memorial day last year.

Not with DD; I had the on call doctor instead. My OB did deliver DS though; he came in even though he Wasn't on call that day.

I rotated between about 4 doctors, but the one I saw most did end up being the one who delivered.
pomegranate / 3414 posts
Yep-he is a solo practice and just came and went throughout my induction. Since the hospital was only about 10min from his office they called him when I was pretty close and he got there in plenty of time.
coconut / 8299 posts
Yes, he delivered my baby. The on-call doctor was who I ended up speaking with first (because my water broke in the middle of the night) and she's the one that met me at the hospital. But my OB ended up arriving lately and they both delivered my son together (c-section).

Yes. He the only doctor I saw. He came to check on my throughout the day(induced) and was there when things got sketchy towards the end and did my c-section
